Things to do in Butterworth
Busy place, hard to find a place to park your car. A lot of seating, though it's self service. Although they do have workers walk around with some trolley, but they often have only a few items. You better walk to the front and take a tray and choose whatever you want straight from the steaming tray. There are buns, vegetables, siew mai, ha kao, typical dim sum dishes. You could also order noodles like hor fun or meehoon.. It's ok if you like dim sum and don't mind the drivers in that area..
This is an old family operated restaurant. It offers the best hor fun in Butterworth on the Penang mainland. The steamed hor fun is smooth and tender. You can have dry or with soup. The hor fun comes with a few prawn dumplings and strips of chicken.I highly recommend that you place additional orders for the prawn dumplings which tastes very good and a plate of steamed chicken ( pek cham k) with oyster sauce and another plate of steamed veg with oyster sauce. All the additional dishes will give you that extra oomph! I also like their home made chilly sauce.Great for a light meal.Place is clean and staff very friendly. It is always packed with customers so go early. It is open from morning till late afternoon. No problem with parking but you need to buy parking coupons which could be purchased at nearby shops /convenience stores.
It is very popular with the locals. It is a family operated restaurant which had served its customers for more than 40 years.Place is unassuming and you go there principally for food only.Their signature dishes are pig trotters in sticky oyster sauce, fried big prawns, clay pot fish curry, steamed fish, stir fried lala ( sea shells) and stir fried vegetables. We had ordered the pig trotters, the fried prawns, lala and stir fried kangkung with chilly and belacan. The trotters was one of the best I've tasted! The prawns were delicious and the kangkung very good with a light aroma of belacan and a taste of chilly. The lala tasted sweet with the sauce fried with ginger. The dishes were well portioned.I highly recommend this restaurant to food lovers.Place is not air conditioned and generally crowded. It is a typical Chinese coffee shop environment. It is about 10 mins drive from the Butterworth ferry terminal.Parking on street requires coupon which you can buy from convenience shops nearby. An hour coupon costs MYR0.40Service is good and the person taking orders speak English,Mandarin and local dialects.
Most of the people comes for their lohmee, taste of lohmee is nice with their thick gravy and combination of some braised pork knuckle, braised chicken feet and eggs.Beside lohmee, there are several of others food likes steam chai kueh, fresh packing nasi lemak and charkueyteow available. The restaurant always crowded and lack of seat all times, be patient to have a wait for the seat and won't feel any comfortable for dine in experience as there are very pack and heat even during early of the morning. Located at the corner of main street, beside Veenai Hotel. Limited street side parking (parking lot available at not far, just behind restaurant under tree area).
Came here fees times since started up 3 months back. The reason i keep coming back is I do observe the coffee n food keep improving as the owners takes inputs from customers positively n continue make it better. The cafe is not big, however it just nice for u or ur family to grab a good meal n drink for the day. My personal favourite is double shot Latte, Blue Nasi Lemak, Handmade Burger n later on the improve version aglio olio pasta. Not forget to mention I like the owe make cakes. Reminder, u may not find a seat during peak hour such as lunch n dinner time, do call in to check it out. The shop close on Sunday.

It's good but the food quality and taste lacks in consistency, sometimes it's too thin, sometimes too sweet.many condiments you can choose from varieties of fish balls, deep fried fish nuggets, pork, innards, eggs, vegetables, etc. You can also choose to have meehoon, maggi noodles, or porrige to go with either normal clear, chicken/pork soup and Tom Yum soup.Waiting time is tolerable, ranging from 15mins up to 45mins, depends on the volume of crowds. The place is rather dirty and noisy from the typical young crowds. It normally starts operating from 6/7pm-midnight.Price is quite expensive as compared to other local food. with 4 condiments, it could cost you around RM6-8. (I noticed the price would be always more expensive when you take deep fried fish nuggets...)
Well-established business, in a new location in a shop house rather than the famous street stall, along the famous Kamoung Benggali. William is the third generation of soy milk makers, which his grandparents started. The soymilk is creamy and the added brown gula Malacca (brown palm sugar) makes the drink almost a dessert. Rare to find something ultra healthy and incredibly delicious. Then there's the fresh silky tofu dessert; another must try...healthy and delicious as well. Both can be ordered without the sugar. Both products are made on the premises. Expect the tofu dessert to be sold out before closing time (closes about 6pm, I think). Nice place to sit under the fans and maybe chat to the locals, even to William or his Dad if they are not too busy.

Fresh local seafood. Got our rice and seafood craving fixed. Reasonable prices. Ask about portion size and price before ordering, to manage expectations. E.g. We wanted ocean crabs but they were tiny (no supply of decent sized ones at the moment, same as other restaurants) - more like snack sized, just for the taste! Best part is being by the shore with the sea breeze, sights and sounds of a relaxing vacation.

Usually I have steamboat with my mother uncle and wife. We like to the fish meat, fish ball and etc. the place is spacious and cool. Good steamboat with traditional coal
Just one slurp and my wife and I were hooked. I think the main attraction is the texture of their noodles. It is non-greasy and has just the right amount of firmness that made me consider a second helping. Not that the helping is small but it's just that it is truly that delicious. The anchovies are another great choice to add-on. It is super crunchy and pairs very well with the dish. It would be really nice though, if Chilli Pan Mee provides online delivery service. I am sure many people would greatly appreciate the convenience of their tasty pan mee delivered right to their doorstep. This place gets our vote if ever there's an award for the best chilli pan mee in Butterworth.
