Find out what Mediterranean restaurants to try in Asuncion. The "Mother of Cities" was founded in 1537, and declared independence from Spain in 1811. The charming historic section can be explored on foot. The friendly Paraguayan capital, gateway to the grassy Gran Chaco region, has long been a center of music, poetry and the arts, but only in recent years has Asunción been able to escape its long history of dictatorship rule. Sites to visit include Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, Casa de la Independencia and Catedral de Nuestra Senora de Asuncion.

Traditional Sea Food Restoran with origins in Punta del Este, Uruguay that arrived in Paraguay in 2013, fine and dedicated cuisine of seafood, shellfish and fish with different sauces, offering a wide and varied menu where you will also find Homemade past
This seems to be THE place in Asuncion to have a real Spanish paella and that's what we went for. And Paella we had. It's not the real thing, the rice is not the right one and the seafood was frozen (but hey, what would you expect in this landlocked country?) but the final product was not bad at all and I had two servings. The decor is nice and creative and the service excellent.

Homemade food, great coctails, and ham and salumi deli with great products. Our specialties are the pastas. We also have pizza made in a wood oven
Visited here for a business dinner. Excellent food, charming staff, local fare, reasonable prices, pleasant setting. What more can I say? I will be back!

My wife and I were fortunate enough to have stayed at Hotel Westfalenhaus earlier this week. One of the highlights of staying at this hotel is Restaurant Piroschka which specializes in cuisine from all parts of Europe including German, Russian and Mediterranean. It is delightful little restaurant with both an indoor dining room and a patio for outdoor dining. During our brief stay at Westfalenhaus, we enjoyed lunch and an evening snack at this restaurant.Although it may take a little extra time for your meal to arrive, it is definitely worth the wait. Each meal is prepared with lots of tender loving care. I dined on a generous portion of paprika Gulasch for lunch. The side dish of Spaetzle complemented the savory taste of the Gulasch. My wife also shared a portion of her pork ribs, and the ribs were tender and tasty... it was obvious the TLC provided by the chef paid off. A variety of freshly baked bread and rolls accompanied our meal. For an evening snack, I dined on a large bowl of Erbsensuppe (pea soup) which was accompanied by a small frankfurter and freshly baked bread. Prices at Piroschka are reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Lunch and the evening snacks set us back the equivalent of $51 US. First class service appears to be the norm at Piroschka. The restaurant is open to the public, so when looking for dining options in Asuncion, this restaurant would be an excellent choice.

Relatively new locale in a very nice house. Oil, balsamic and oven baked bread as well as seemingly pampering service kept our expectations high. Unfortunately, although it was early and the place was almost empty, food took much too long to arrive and was disappointing. Steak and pork were over cooked. Presentation was mediocre, prices quite high. Do not recommend!

A bit over the top in décor and attempted attitude but good Italian. Pretty place, good food, good service. At first I was turned off by all the mirrors and American Express ads, but liked the waiter and food. Good choice as it is across the street from the Sheraton and a few blocks from other major hotels. For a city not used to visitors, they are very accustomed to visitors and offer a good option

You want great paella? Go to the Taberna. While there take time to read the classic writings on the wall. Enjoy the Spanish ambience and take in the great service and ring the cow bell overhead if your waiter is needed. I go for the seafood paella. I come to Asuncion once a year and always plan a dinner at the great Taberna Espanola.

On a previous visit I had some hard words to say about what traditionally I have found to be the best restaurant in Asuncion. However, as I think I remarked on that occasion, every establishment can have an "off" night.Returning, after a considerable interva,l Mburicao had more than recovered its previous gastronomic quality and my four friends and I were equally satisfied with the food. Alas not so the service, which was overstretched to the point of near invisibility and there were long waits between placing orders and service and most irritating of all, in finally acquiring the bill. This restaurant seems to have slipped in the Trip Advisor ratings although I would once more rate it as Numero Uno in Asuncion, at least as regard the quality of the cuisine. Likewise, the description of the food as "Latin American" is inadequate and somewhat misleading in an establishment specializing in what might best be described as "international fusion".By no means cheap, but with the exception of the service - due to a grossly inadequate staffing level - I would still rate it as excellent by comparison with my experience in various capitals in Europe and the Western Hemisphere.

Bolsi is a third generation family-owned restaurant which opened in 1960.
Walked in shortly after opening and the place was quite packed already. Ordered variety of local pastry and fresh juice just to taste it all, and it was absolutely worth it ... forget your sterile hotel breakfast. Come downtown, sit down and enjoy, absorb the vibe of the place, smell of food & spice from the kitchen, local people chit-chatting... itâs a very genuine experience!
