A good base

Reviewed By John G

Calling this a "lodge" somewhat gives a wrong impression, as it is in very little grounds, in a suburban environment. There is little to do in the lodge and going outside is not to be encouraged, except on organised trips. That said, it is a pleasant place to stay, albeit rather basic. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the room suited its purpose. One problem was the noise generated by early risers, amplified by the wooden structure of the rooms. The food was fairly bland but well cooked and perfectly edible. There was wine and beer available at reasonable cost. The wi-fi did function but was unpredictable.

Very nice surprising ! Very nice hotel, I don't know why it is placed in 3rd out of 3 B&B in Madang. The other 2 must be very very good then ! Unfortunately we spend only one night here. I wish I could have stayed another night. It looks very cozy lodge. Made from wood, at least it looks wooden style. I think it was double bed room. Very big and bathroom is huge too. AC, complimentary coffee/tea/milk, mini fridge, TV. So confy to stay here. You can chill out at swimming pool.(outdoor) Restaurant is big too. Bar area is fun Next morning, we had to check out really early and hotel prepared packed breakfast.

Stoked to stay at Rubio Plantation

This place is every grom's fantasy. Fun changeable house wave with incredible view near other great surf and non-surf spots, based on a small cocoa and copra plantation that the family are diversifying with other trees. Excellent quality chocolate and coconut oil is for available for purchase too. Shane and his family are very helpful, kind and relaxed hosts who are generous with their experience living and going on surf adventures in PNG for over 30 years. They also make excellent healthy food for every meal. Accommodation is simple, which was perfect and it really helped being able to get return transport to the Kavieng airport. I would love to visit again.

Paradise

Living in PNG through the pandemic gave us the opportunity to visit somewhere we would likely never have gone to. Service and accomodation was 5 star all the way. Food was first class. Diving was spectacular every day. Arriving early in the morning we were greeted by turtles swimming past the back of the boat. Days spent longing in a hammock, diving, snorkeling or kayaking over the Haus reef, cocktails in the evening ahead of a delicious dinner. What more could you want. While we were there the first turtle nests in the hatchery were hatching. It was wonderful to participate in gathering the data on the hatchlings and then helping to release them into the ocean. Liked it so much we’re going back in a couple of weeks.

This was an excellent shore excursion from a cruise ship. Very good explanations, wonderful feast and village life. The fruit provided was some of the best I have eaten anywhere. The attitude of all concerned was welcoming and very respectful.
