I could overlook the shabby, tired condition of the hotel as it is cheap and has the basic comforts you need in a transit town, however the staff here look like they are in a waiting room to die so bored and disengaged and that people sums up the overall atmosphere of the hotel sad, dar, cavernous, empty and depressing. That and if you dare ask the staff for room service in the "VIP Room" they look at you like you are asking for an elephant ride to be organised at 3am. Pass on through if you can.

The hotel has different room qualities, in different buildings, with large "VIP" rooms. Unfortunately these rooms are in the building next to the street and almost opposite to the stadium and other buildings where sport events, concerts or festivals are organised and some rooms can be noisy on such evenings. The rooms are very clean. They would benefit in having a more convenient desk, larger (or remove the tv), with place to sit and better electric socket (but this is true of most hotels in the country). My room had a real light above the desk, not all have. Breakfast is available. Far from city center. There are a few basic restaurants nearby; but one needs to go downtown (2-3 km away) to find a better choice. All in all, a good place to stay, if you have your own transportation. Free wifi.

We spent one night here, on our way to Luang Prabang. The owner was very helpful & his English was good, the rooms even though they are big are basic, however for the price we paid it was good value. The establishment is an old government run hostel for youth which has now been turned into a guesthouse.

Things didn't start well as receptionist ignored us when we arrived - spoke to guide only. No one to show us our room. Our guide helped us with luggage and to find room. Water was cold, we worked out ourselves that there was a switch which needed putting on beforehand to heat up. Only one towel so had to request a second. Laundry was done on time but unironed and when we tried to indicate/ ask for an iron, the person we spoke to just shrugged. No one on reception most of the time. Room was clean and had aircon, so could be okay if anyone actually cared about providing a service. No breakfast on site, but nearby cafe good service with friendly staff.
