With a very friendly check- in, I got Room 407, with a double bed and a view of the castle off in the distance. There was a decent work desk, small table and chair, a mini-fridge and tea service. The bathroom was classic Japanese business hotel style: small, but everything functioned well. The staff were great all around, very welcoming and helpful. The room had a refurb recently, and looked bright and modern. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet. The window opened for fresh air. Breakfast, ordered the night before, was western- style and was delicious. They did a great job. There was underground parking for my bicycle, a nice touch. It is not fancy, but it is an excellent budget place to stay.

We stayed in the cabin separate from the main building which is a converted elementary school. This was a large traditional Japanese house, with many original features, a very interesting place to stay. We hadn't booked dinner, so there was nothing to eat but there was a kitchen; so stock up for arrival. There is a park up above the hotel, full of cherry blossom when we were there. Breakfast was basic but sufficient. There is not much English spoken but the staff/owners are friendly and willing. We continued up route 55 over the top of the hotel this was a fairly bad route as winter had just finished, check before taking.
