The Lost Gull Fish N' Chips

The Lost Gull Fish N Chips proudly serves fresh Maine seafood to the people of the Oxford Hills Region. It is a staple to the area, and has visitors from all over the world. A special place to visit and be a part of!

Reviewed By smokeyjoe1 - New York

We just came back from Maine, we live on Long Island in NY where we have plenty of fine seafood restaurants to choose from. We came from New Hampshire,we were there looking at the fall foliage then came to Oxford, Maine to visit the Maine Wildlife Park for one day, and the next day to visit Bar Harbor, Maine.
I can eat almost anything but my wife has a VERY delicate stomach. The slightest thing out of the way as far as food goes, and she will suffer and be sick the rest of the night! I read some good reviews about the LOST GULL FISH n CHIPS and it was just down the road from where we were staying, so on the first night in Oxford we decided to give this place a try?
When we drove up, we did not expect to see such a small place, a shack is a good word to describe it. In the center of this building, you place your order, and on both sides there are tables. One side has round tables and the other side has a half dozen picnic tables with benches to sit on. I noticed going inside a lot of were people coming out with food to go, that is a GOOD SIGN to me!
I ordered the fried clam belly platter and my wife ordered the Lobster roll naked, with no seasoning on it at all just melted butter on the side with a baked potato. I was praying that she would enjoy her meal and have no problems with the food. She said the Lobster tasted so FRESH AND TENDER it was the BEST she has ever eaten! We are both senior citizens and have eaten in many fine restaurants in our lifetime. For my wife to say that, it's saying a lot! Thank you, thank you, Dear Lord! My platter was loaded, a huge mound of FRESH french fries and NOT the frozen fast food type, topped with a load of fried clam bellies that were NOT that greasy, oily, or over fried clams you find in many places. They were both delicious! My platter also came with a side cup of homemade coleslaw that was excellent and a roll with butter. I am a big eater but I could not finish all the fries or eat the roll at all. I also ordered a bottle of soda with my meal the dinner bill came for 2, came out to about $38. bucks! Are you kidding me? In NY, that meal would be DOUBLE the cost, and NEVER be as fresh as it was here! I was so happy, I left a nice tip, in the tip jar by the counter for the crew to share!
When we left the LOST GULL, my wife was feeling so good she said, lets go for a little while and try our luck at the Oxford Casino! Thank you, thank you, Dear Lord!!!
The next day we drove all the way to Bar Harbor about 160-170 miles one way to look around and see the sights there. Bar Harbor is loaded with shops and many, many seafood restaurants and Lobster shacks, if fact we saw the Lobster boats bringing in fresh caught Lobsters to be sold to the restaurants and shacks in town. It was around 3PM by now and I was starting to get hungry, so I asked my wife if she wanted to eat something?
I could not believe her answer, with ALL the restaurants and shacks here in Bar Harbor, she tells me she wants to have ANOTHER dinner, back at the LOST GULL in Oxford again! I remembered their hours on the door, they close off season at 8PM, so we jumped back in the car and a few hours later we were eating at the LOST GULL FISH n CHIPS again!
My wife ordered exactly the same thing as the night before, her naked Lobster roll with a side of melted butter and a baked potato. I ordered the Lobster stew, the fried scallop dinner but instead of the french fries that I could not finish, I ordered a baked potato too. She was just as delighted with her dinner as the night before! Thank you, thank you, Dear Lord, Oh thank you! I enjoyed the Lobster stew, you can actually taste how FRESH MADE it was. When you order Lobster Bisque, most times the Lobster is so tough and chewy from laying in the pot so long, and being so OVERCOOKED, not this Lobster stew, NAY, NAY, this Lobster was fresh cooked and not chewy at all and with plenty of Lobster meat in it, the juice was not thick, it had a fresh Lobster taste with a lot of melted butter in it, maybe to much butter in it for my taste. If I had it again I would ask them to put a little less butter in it. The fried scallops were also excellent and fresh tasting, not like those frozen watery scallops you sometimes run into! The baked potato was also excellent baked just right! This dinner also comes with home made coleslaw, tarter sauce a roll and butter. I also had a bottle of Raspberry iced tea with my meal. The total for both meals was about $50. bucks, you can't beat that anywhere for 2, REAL FRESH SEAFOOD dinners both with fresh Lobster included in both meals! I left another nice tip in the tip jar to share that last night there.
So, anyone who reads this, and is in the area of Oxford Maine, maybe going to the casino a mile or so away or just driving through looking for some good fresh seafood, give this place a try. I think you will be happy! It's not much to look at and you don't need to wear a tuxedo, pajamas will do, believe me!
If anyone is wondering if I'm related to the owner, the answer is no, I never met these people in my life, but I will say this about them, they are all very nice! At our age I don't know if we will ever be back to Maine? We are happy we got there this time, Maine is a beautiful state!
If your wondering why we went to the Maine Wildlife Park? For years I have searched New England and Canada looking to spot a live MOOSE, and never saw one. I love looking at those dumb awkward, lopsided looking animals. I read the MWP has live moose there. Yes! I finally saw my Roger, a real live Moose posing for us! Now I can scratch that off my bucket list!
Happy travels to all, God Bless, and Peace to all on this planet!

Because of rehearsal for "The Little Mermaid" this was a lunch visit. A party of 8 was quickly accommodated. The menu choices at lunchtime are elegant! We had baked onion soup, escargot, Caesar salad, chicken wrap, among others. The two infants needed an early departure.
The service is notable at Maurice's! We have had the same server before and she is wonderful. This is not fast food, which is a plus. Don't miss it!

After enjoying many excellent meals over the years at 76 Pleasant, we decided to host our son's wedding there. We knew that the food would be excellent, the setting beautiful and that Amy and Bret are always wonderful hosts. The wedding exceeded all our expectations. We rented a tent but are excited to see the coming addition of beautiful barn next to the restaurant Thanks again Amy and Bret for making Chris and Catia's wedding such a success.

My GO TO Dunkin, every morning. This Dunkin is located inside the Big Apple and tends to be very busy. The wait staff and management are awesome. I give them cudos for working well together in a small area.

Tucked in the corner of a small strip mall next to the local Golden Arches this great sandwich shop and bakery could be easily missed. Travelling with the dog we got a couple of Turkey Gobbler sandwiches and had a picnic in the local park just north on highway 26.

If you are within driving distance, this is the place for ice cream. All the flavors you'd expect, hard and soft ice cream and the toppings for sundaes are really fresh. And they don't skimp on the sizes. Cups overflowing, lots of delicious toppings and a small but cozy spot to eat and enjoy. What more could you ask for?

Stopped at this restaurant on our way home from Maine. We enjoyed a tasty and well served breakfast. For me the quarter omelette with home fries and home-baked toast was just perfect. My husband enjoyed his real scrambled eggs with a nice side of French toast. And there were lots of choices. Coffee was drinkable, though not the best. But that may be my take because I prefer a dark roast. Reasonable prices and good service add up to a great place for breakfast.

Ice cream always makes me happy. A trip to Norway Soft Serve , which is located in the antique train station in South Paris is a destination not to be missed. Smiles abound ! On spring evenings, the local soft ball and baseball teams line up for fun and refreshments to smile about. The Ice Cream bar offers nearly every kind of that soft swirly delight that even the most imaginative would be pleased to consume. Whether your favorite be hard vanilla ice cream in a dish , a four tiered soft-serve raspberry, strawberry , chocolate, coffee king-sized cone or a frozen yogurt sundae with fudge sauce, whipped cream, brownies and nuts...you'll be happy too !

Smedberg's HomeMade One Cow Ice Cream

Reviewed By TAFCRacer - Mechanic Falls, Maine

Every long cold winter here in Maine, we look forward to the opening of Smedberg's One Cow. They usually open up right around Memorial Day then provide us with the best ice cream in the area until late fall.

In addition to ice cream in all styles & shapes, One Cow offers milkshakes, frappes & floats. The ice cream comes in all kinds of cool flavors, I like the grapenut & black raspberry. You can get cups, cones (including sugar), sundaies (large & small) banana splits & pints to go, always served with a friendly smile. They also sell cool little K-9 cups for the doggies.

There is a great little grassy outside seating area, and plenty of parking if you prefer to sit in your car. One Cow is open from approximately 11AM-8PM daily depending on the weather. They are located right on Rt.26 between the Speedway & the Fairgrounds, beside Smedberg's Crystal Spring Farm.
