The graceful setting, with rich, panelled walls and twinkling Waterford Crystal chandeliers bestows a grand sense of occasion. Our resident pianist plays softly in the background while you relax and enjoy exceptional dishes from the kitchen of acclaimed Chef Philippe Farineau, recently awarded two rosettes by the AA Hospitality Awards, combined with much loved recipes of Beatrice Tollman and complemented by a fine selection of wines from Chief Sommelier, Robert Bowe.
Very fine dining and lovely service. If you stay near or at Ashford Castle, definitely go. It's worth the visit.

We visited here on Saturday November 4th and were delighted to get a table just inside the door. Usually when I go to a cafe, I can usually pick one item that I'd like. I went up to the counter and each and every cake looked delicious. I just couldn't decide so I opted for two Deserts and talked my wife into having the other one I'd like!
We started with the "Snowball" - it was yummy and I thought I'd ate the best first. That was until I tried the chocolate cake, it was another level. Finally, a rosewater flavoured meringue with berry compote, home made lemon curd - it was incredible! The Meringue was soft in the centre, I licked the plate clean.
Great coffee, great staff, when I was asked if I wanted another desert I had to think long and hard before declining - I'm still sorry I didn't try the apple pie though. Congratulations to the best little cafe in Ireland!

My husband and I spent our holidays in Oughterard. We are professional hikers, so great warm soup in Breathnachs Bar was our favourite meal of the day. Very kind and friendly staff let us feel like at home. Even when the bar was full of hungry people, they never were to busy to ask about our trips or give us some tips. We will be back, definitely.

We are a small family run Restaurant, Café and Deli situated on the main street in Oughterard serving homemade meals, cakes and breads using Fresh, Seasonal, Locally Sourced Produce! Wines and local beers too! Serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Full Evening menu. Reservations Taken.
It's the local restaurant you wish was around the corner from you. Excellent food and a surprisingly good wine list. The emphasis is on local produce prepared well. Irish and European classics but also lighter modern dishes and excellent main-course salads.
It's tiny (seats about 25) with a casual cafe ambience.
Worth the wait as the food is better than most offerings in Oughterard (not that the others are bad at all, I haven't had a bad meal at any of them over many years)
Breathnachs is worth a visit for excellent chowder, lasagne, fish/chips and there is an excellent burger at

Dessi redid the upstairs and hosts a play every Wednesday during July, August and September. 7 pm. The Irish Literary genius doesn't need a Broadway production, it actually comes into it's own in a café. Pizza is just as good as when I wrote a...MoreJan thanks for your positive vibe

Wow, were not expecting the exceptional cuisine and silver service we discovered in here.
We stopped here because we know people called Halloran, and it looked like it needed some patronage, being blended into the street-front and deceptively small and unassuming.
But WOW, it opened into an extremely well appointed fine-dining venue, and the expected pub food was haute cuisine of exceptional standard - and not even expensive!. So we came back several times during our stay, despite the good competition elsewhere.
