Originally called "The Basin" after the circular valley the city is in, it is unclear whether Madras was named in 1903 for the cotton fabric called "Madras" that originated in the city of Madras (now Chennai) in Tamil Nadu, India, or from the name of the city itself. The population was 6,046 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County.

Selection of pizza is great, including a 'build your own' one. Simple but palatable wine, and several brands of draft beer are available. Prices are moderate, service is prompt and cheerful. There were quite a few visitors, apparently locals, which affirms my high opinion of food served.

From an outside perspective, I had wondered why folks were always pulling off the highway to eat at Charlies... and after eating there, I am still wondering. The food just isn't that great, they have some gravy that is on a number of dishes and is supposedly the owner's secret recipe, but it really isn't that wonderful. Maybe I should have tried a few more dishes to be fair, but I did ask for the most popular dishes and naturally am surprised as to why they were so popular. My wife seemed to like the food a bit better, but not by a whole lot.

I say download the app and you can order your pizza and have it ready when you arrive. Pizza hut is a carry out only place so order early and you don't have to sit in your car or inside while you wait.

We had pizza delivered to our hotel from Figaro's. The telephone service and delivery were both very friendly and the pizza came quickly. The pizza was tasty, could have used a little more sauce, but overall, we would definitely eat here again.
