This is the best example of Izakaya style Japanese food in the Markham area. The staff is friendly and are all Japanese speakers. The chefs are all from Japan too.The food is always fresh and the selection is really remarkable. Everything from sushi and sashimi to yakitori and osaka chahan. It would be hard to find an Izakaya in Tokyo that could compete with the menu or quality at this restaurant. We ordered about 8 dishes and everything was superb. Pitches of Asahi beer are wonderful. Try the pitcher of beer and chicken karaage deal, it's really good

Many People think sushi as the mainstream of, of sometimes the only Japanese food culture. Hundreds and thousands of Japanese restaurant entrepreneur and chef have been devoting their lives to introduce Japanese food with sushi, tempura or teriyaki in dec
I loved the interior design of the place! The sushi chefs were positioned on a higher platform so as to be able to oversee all the customers, it looked like. The restaurantâs seating was arranged into quadrants with wooden partitions between each party. It was so nice!We ordered a lot of izakaya dishes to share. I loved the variety of food we had at this meal. There were both Japanese and Korean items on the menu. They offered items like sushi, udon, ramen, nabe (hot pot), okonomi yaki, and lots of izakaya small dishes. The Edamame was the first to arrive. I was pleasantly surprised with how large the portion was. The beans were a bit hard for my taste at first. The Nagasaki Chanpon was a large pot of pork broth with veggies, pork, and seafood. You could add noodles to it too. This was great for a cold winterâs day. The pork broth was sooo flavourful and delicious!!! I didnât expect that at all. The amount of seafood in it was generous too.I havenât had Okonomi Yaki in a while. This one was pretty good. It had the Japanese mayonnaise on it and was sweet and tarty. It had slices of pork on it too.The Karaage was just okay to me. It was crispy and looked good but lacked seasoning for my taste. It came with a light green onion soy sauce too.I also ordered an item from the nabe section. This Tamago Mushi was a Korean style steamed egg with shrimp in it! There was a bit of clear broth in it too which was really good. Comfort food to the max!Last but not least I wanted to try their Tsuki Roll. When it arrived, I was surprised to see that the roll was made with purple rice instead of typical white rice. This was a sold roll; the size was not too big and the raw scallop on top of the dynamite roll was just to my liking. I liked this meal and definitely wouldnât hesitate to return in the future. The service was really attentive too; the server kept coming by our table to see if we needed anything and to clear empty dishes from our table.

We learned this has been under new management for about three months. Dinner was quite good actually and so was the dessert. We would go back to try all the desserts although selection as in many Asian restaurants is not big. Friendly service. Seems like a nice local joint with well-prepared food. We happened upon this place online and thought to give it a try.

Went with family to Gal's Sushi. It is located across the road from the Hilton Suites hotel in Markham.Lots of free parking and the restaurant is spacious.Ordered the bento box meals for the family. Overall, food was ok...but very small portion size when compared to the Japanese restaurants in downtown Toronto. Note, the prices were also approx 20-25% more than a comparable bento box in Toronto downtown. Not sure I can fully recommend based on portion size and prices.

Vegetarian sushi and sashimi found here! Tenon Vegetarian Cuisine (天æ©ä¸æ¥ç´ é£æç) used to be a regular Japanese restaurant many, many years ago. I remember dining here at least ten years ago and remembering the visit to be quite mediocre. Since then, they have either been taken over by new management or switched to being a meat-free restaurant. When we arrived at 12 p.m. on a Saturday, I was surprised to see that there werenât many patrons inside at all. However, the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was splendid. All the teapots, plates, cups, flowers on the table, and furnishings gave a luxurious vibe. The chefâs sushi area was so nicely designed too with Japanese style lanterns. There were actually so many types of sushi rolls and rolls and dishes on the menu. Everything was all vegetarian. Even though a sushi roll may be made with âshrimpâ or some kind of âfishâ, all of them were either soy-based or made from vegetables so that there was no animal by-product at all. I had to inquire about the ingredients with the server since I noticed that some items mentioned âsoy-baseâ while others didnât, so the menu was a bit inconsistent. However, the server did confirm for me that every single one of their item were 100% vegetarian. The Green Dragon Roll had cucumber, tempura shrimp, imitation crab meat, avocado on top with barbecue sauce. It looked no different than a regular green dragon roll with real shrimp actually. It looked great. The âtempura shrimpâ though inside the roll was definitely a vegetarian mock shrimp that tasted a bit chewy and dense. The Red Curry Soy-Chicken surprisingly didnât come with any rice. We had to order a serving of rice to go with the dish.It was soy chicken in red curry with coconut milk and basil. The soy chicken was akin to how most vegetarian meats taste like. I was impressed with the red curry as it was very smooth with a strong hint of coconut milk. It wasnât spicy at all. I actually drank all of the curry soup since it was so tasty. There were a lots of green peppers, red peppers, onions, and zucchinis in the dish. The prices here were reasonable and actually similar to what it would cost at a meat-friendly restaurant. There were so many choices of sushi and dishes that I definitely would return again to try more varieties.

Excellent sushi rolls with the freshest ingredient. Pizza sushi, salads and other side order are not to be missed. Bibimbap served on hot stone bowl keeps your rice warm in cold winter days while you are eating. Our all time favourite . Warm sake for the wine lovers in a lovely little serving kettle .

We had a blast in the VIP room at Kiu. There were 14 of us and the room comes equipped with private karaoke, couches and traditional Japanese dinner seating. We ordered the 12 foot sushi and sashimi board along with oodles of other dishes. The pork belly was a must. The price for the quality of food was very good. A great list of Saki and fun cocktails. This is a fun trip to Markham and well worth the drive. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food fun.

They also have freshly prepared noodles. The variety of the other dishes is impressive and they keep them refreshed continually.

Zen Japanese Restaurant is aiming for the preservation of the traditional culture of Japanese cuisine, which gives the best impression of the cuisine to the patron while being loved by them.
Enjoyed the Sushi Kaiseki tasting menu with my hunny on Valentine's. A bit on the expensive side, but we save these dinners for special occasions. The variety on the menu is wonderful. Service is very precise and not overbearing. Actually wanted to sit at the sushi bar (up close to the action) but for Kaiseki menu, we were only allowed to sit at a table.
