Cafe Amore is Mediterranean inspired restaurant that opened in 1995. Featuring seafood, steak, veal, lamb, chicken, pastas, pizza and vegetarian dishes you'll be sure to find something for everyone. Over the years it has been voted as the best overall res
Open since 1995, Café Amore has been a staple of the St. Catharines area for nearly a quarter century. Over that time, the restaurant has garnered many accolades, according to their own website: best overall restaurant, most romantic, best desserts and best ambiance, amongst a few others. Of course, it would be helpful to know who voted Café Amore âbestâ in each of these categories â and when â but I guess such details are redundant when self-promoting?In any event, I patronized this restaurant with family for what was supposed to be, Iâm told, an unforgettable meal. Now, letâs start with what I liked about Café Amore: I did like the ambiance and atmosphere; it was traditional Mediterranean, but with a contemporary twist. The staff, doubtless, added to this warm and friendly atmosphere. Throughout the dinner service, they were engaging, friendly and very attentive and they did so in a way that wasnât intrusive. For me, this was a big âplusâ because it demonstrated that the Café Amore team understands the essence of good customer service, which is an integral part of any positive dining experience.Unfortunately, the food did not quite match the high calibre of customer service; in fact, Iâd go so far as to say the food was a mixed bag. The Charcuterie platter, which served as an appetizer, was spot on. It featured a nice selection of meats and cheeses â including prosciutto, salami, gorgonzola and provolone â and other niceties, including olives and the ever delightful figs. Likewise, my Caesar salad was good. It featured fresh parmesan and a dressing that contained just the right level of acidity and garlic. After two great starters, I had high hopes for my main: Stuffed sole. Much to my chagrin, however, the stuffed sole â a flat fish â fell flat in a pronounced way. First, the presentation was left wanting. The sole came in a grease-saturated dish (see photo); and the accompanying vegetables looked fairly sorry and sad, with the broccoli turning yellow in colour. Even the parsley garnish couldnât save the plating here. Second, when it came to taste, I was most disappointed. The sole, despite being filled with a broccoli-shrimp-cheese stuffing and saturated in an oily alfredo (?) sauce, lacked any significant flavour. The poor sole was completely lost in the oily mess. The one flavour that did ring through, though? The freezer. Yum!I should note, as well, that one member of our party had a wood-fired pizza. It was fine, but far from the best Iâve had in this regard. There were ample toppings but, for a wood-fired pie, it was rather âsoftâ in texture, which isnât standard. On the plus side, though, it was better than my fish. One thing that Iâve heard a lot about is Café Amoreâs desserts. Even while dining in the restaurant, I was able to overhear people raving about their cakes and pies. As such, I was excited to try one as well. I ended up going for the Strawberry shortcake. I will say, in terms of both presentation and taste, this cake was a definite winner. The cake was soft; the strawberry filling wasnât overly sweet; and the portion size was just right after a decent-sized meal. Sure, none of the desserts are actually made on site â and that is kind of a downer â but then again, there are quite a few establishments that bring these treats in from elsewhere. Itâs a pretty common practice. Youâd be surprised.FOOD: 3/5SERVICE: 4/5VALUE: 3/5RECOMMENDATION: Well, even though Café Amore has received many a (mystery) accolade, I probably wouldnât go out of my way to return here. The appetizers were good but the mains not so much. Likewise, the cake was delicious, but not made on site. While not really familiar with the St. Catharines area, Iâd hazard a guess that there are other â better â Mediterranean eateries in the vicinity. Mild recommendation.PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!

Traveling with my son and stopped at The Feathery Pub for a late Saturday dinner after unpacking him for University. Prices for both pints and food were very reasonable. I ordered the Steak and Mushroom Pie which came with lots of beef and mushrooms. I have had Steak and Mushroom Pie at other places where you had to play hide and seek through the gravy to find any steak or mushrooms. This was a good portion filled with the good stuff. My son had the Dagwood Sandwich which was piled high on marble rye bread. He thoroughly enjoyed it. We both had the balsamic greens as our side and they were a little wet from a bit too much dressing but not a big issue.DMthePMThank you very much for choosing the Feathery Pub for dinner & pints! We appreciate your business and appreciate you taking the time to share this review here on Trip Advisor! Also we wanted to take a moment to congratulate your son on starting (?) or continuing this year at Brock! We hope he turns into a regular!Cheers Tammy

It was a bit of a push to get me to agree but was it ever worth it. From former cotton mill to a quality restaurant in just a few years is an amazing transformation. The Keg has long been a favourite place but it was always Waterdown. This time itâs St. Catharines. The menu is standard. Classics and Steaks. I usually have Prime Rib but I changed it up and had a steak. The staff was awesome. Helped me celebrated my birthday. Food tasted great. Remember to get a reservation. Itâs a very busy place. We got lucky.

This restaurant was recommended for the 50th Reunion of our Grade 13 class. This small, intimate restaurant, with its pleasantly toned-down background music allowed for effortless conversation. It was the perfect venue. Menu choices are somewhat limited but each was prepared flawlessly.

Dave likens the menu to Ween's 'Pure Guava' album. An eclectic mix of foods and flavours he has picked up from working with great folks around the country and travels in China. Like Ween, food can't be pigeon-holed. A family affair, The Diner House 29 off
We've been a regular customer for the past year and I can't say enough good things about this litthe hole on the wall. Can I start with cleanliness, Excellent, extremely caring staff and the little man in the Kitchen never ceases to amaze me with all his gourmet breakfast items. Most times there might be a little wait for a table but the end result makes it all worthwhile. Overall I have to give this Gem a 5 Star rating, To Dave & Annie "You have the Magic Touch", we enjoy each and every visit.

A peculiar little bistro called mirepoix. We serve a little breakfast, and some lunch, but mostly brunch. We serve quality, handmade and freshly baked dishes, focussing on local, seasonal and organic items (wherever possible). Our small, ever changing, bl
My husband and I come to St. Catherines/Niagara several times a year to visit family and always take my elderly parents out for a meal or three when Iâm not cooking for them. Knowing this, my sister-in-law recommended Mirepoix having discovered it during a biking trip. So, today, the parents, husband and I took a drive and landed at Mirepoix. Itâs a tiny wee place with a bright yellow door. We were VERY fortunate that there happened to be a 4-top available when we arrived. (May I suggest you call for reservations). The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Service was outstanding and swift. Locally roasted coffee was excellent (brand name is â416â and we bought a bag to take home) and the food â imaginative, well presented, perfectly prepared, fresh and flavorful. My not-so-easy-to-please Mother all but licked her plate clean. She and Dad both had the mushroom omelette with truffle and chèvre. I was not offered a taste (hmmph!!!) .. but based on their two clean plates, it must have been awfully good. (by the way, Mother said she wasnât hungry when we arrived) I ordered avocado toast which had brunoise tomato-avocado on toasted homemade bread, a sprinkling of capers, a generous portion of excellent quality smoked salmon, two perfectly poached eggs and a side of baby spinach salad. Husband had the âclassic breakfastâ. Two perfect sunny-side ups, freeform sausage, roasted fingerling potatoes, baked beans, pork belly to die for. Pork belly to die for - yes, worth repeating. The eggs must be from local, very healthy and very happy hens - nearly orange yolks that had real old-fashioned egg flavor and a creamy consistency. All of our plates had two generous slices of homemade bread, toasted. Little pots of jams. Coffee refills just when you needed it. Smiles abound - both from staff and every single happy, happy diner in the place. Quality of everything was superb - and in all of our travels around the planet, this breakfast/brunch tops the list. Yes, we absolutely will be back. One word of caution for the elderly or non-ambulatory: there are three rather high stairs to climb from sidewalk to the dining room. P.S. pork belly. pork belly.
