This hotel is only 2 years old. Wonderful Japanese rooms without having to sleep on a futon. Attention to detail in all furnishings. Great onsen. Good food. Awesome service. Very clean. No recent reviews of this place due to covid but it is as good as other reviewers say and definitely the best place to stay around here. In fact even without the UNESCO site nearby it’s almost worth coming just for the hotel.

If you like nature, this place is for you! It’s about 5km from Shirakawa-Go, but they provide shuttle service to pick you up and drop you off at the bus terminal. Breakfast and dinner is also included. They also offer some activities such as a nature hike. I was very fortunate to go on a hike led by Lena. She was great at explaining different trees and Sansai in the forest (both in Japanese and for my benefit only, in English). They also have an on-site onsen that’s very nice. I would highly recommend this place!

●Shiroyamakan which was built 100 years ago is tasteful historic building. Shiroyamakan is one of the important historic building in Shirakawa-go. We had fixed and extended but it hadn’t lost the nostalgic atmosphere. Please forget your busy life here, and enjoy your easy time. I'm afraid we accept bookings 4 parties only. ●We accept the bookings only 4 parties on weekdays because we hope to treat you and communicate with you a lot. We’ll always do our best for your satisfaction. ●Shiroyamakan doesn’t equip a bath except for 1 room Hakusan. Please take a bath at "Shirakawa-go no Yu” which is close to our accommodation. We’ll give 1 ticket to our guests each. “Shirakawa-go no Yu” is the only natural hot spring of the world heritage Shirakawa-go. It takes 5 minutes from our accommodation. But it’s possible to bring you to there by car if you need.
I spent one night at Shirakawa-go and I have no regrets choosing Shiroyama-kan. This is perhaps my best ryokan experience so far in Japan. I initially had worries as there is only one room with attached bathrooms and I did not manage to book that room. The shared toilet turned out to be very clean and modern -even better than the toilet in some hotels and shopping malls. There are 2 vouchers per person to bathe at an onsen in the village which is about 3 minutes walk away. The service and hospitality provided are also exceptional. Shiroyamakan provides free tour (in the owner's van) every afternoon. He drives us around the village and show us the famous locations such as the three houses and the observatory viewpoint. We can choose the time for dinner and breakfast to be served and they will call our room to inform when the meal is ready. Despite language barrier, the family genuinely tries to engage in conversation. You can trust the photos in their official website: the food serving is that much, the food is that appetising, and the family running the ryokan is that warm and friendly. One example: we were the last one to check out and they asked what bus and the time that we would be leaving the village. As our bus was leaving Shirakawago, they were waiting and waving goodbye from outside of the ryokan which is located just opposite the bus terminal.

Lucky to be there in both winter and summer. Shirakawago is such a popular place and it is advisable to plan and book your trip in advance. Our family stay in Takayama but travel to Shirakawago in a rented car and the journey starts with an unforgettable drive. Do not expect fancy dine-in experience but you will have the chance to taste authentic Japanese servings. The village looks stunning when it was covered with thick snow in winter whereas the blossom summer will leave another astonishing experience in your mind. If I have to choose one, my choice will be the snowy winter.

If you go ho vist Shirakawago and need a relaxing place to stay, you should go to this hot spring. Isn’t so far from the world heritage,15-20 minutes by car only. The place is very quiet and they have a inner bath and an out-side bath and also 2 privet out-side bath. Isn’t a cheep please but is worth it. The food is very good and they use a lot of local products. The staff are kind and help you with all the informations you ask. You can go with your family or in couple, with friends also. I really recommend it.

Each room has a shower, toilet, sink, heater and air conditioner. There is no bathtub. The kitchen and dining area are shared with other guests. Access to the second floor is by stairs. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas of the hotel. Recommended for those who want to feel the nature and relax in the Japanese countryside The World Heritage Shirakawa-go is a 12-minute walk away. Shirakawago Ogimachi Bus Terminal is a 10-minute walk away. Convenience store "Daily Yamazaki" is a 1-minute walk.
This place is lovely, clean, comfortable, and had attentive staff and a nice breakfast. The reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is the hair care products. I am not picky about soap or conditioner, and normally use everything a hotel offers. After using the shampoo and conditioner, my long hair became a greasy, waxy mess. It took 30 minutes to comb it out and it even gunked up my comb. I had no time (nor other shampoo on hand) to rectify the situation, and had to do my sightseeing as is until we got to a hot spring in the afternoon and after two shampoos, finally got that cra@p out of my hair. I honestly suspect that the staff could have mistakenly refilled the conditioner bottle with floor wax. Beware if you’re staying in room 5.

The owner was so friendly that she told me how her life was like in the past, and even lent me manga whose background is in Shirakawago. The shower room is very clean! And the FOOD was awesome!! The rice was so delicious!

Gensaku is known by yummy dinner gassho-style house in Shirakawa-go. The host serves local traditional dinner / breakfast. Her husband grow vegetable by himself and the host cook them for guests!! Of course you can enjoy special Hida beef at dinner.
The house is not far from Onsen Hotel. Room is big enough for 4 people. Dinner is a good test , love it. Futon is fine, comfort and warm make me sleep well. I afraid to fire so didn't open heater all night but can sleep. Breakfast is good too. So I recommend for this hostel .
