The folks here are extraordinary! You feel as though you walked into the home of good friends and have been included into their family, truly a warm, welcoming atmosphere! The selection is amazing, yet not overwhelming! There are always some new acquisitions, special buys, and featured specials. The owners are true wine lovers, and appreciate each bottle for what it offers - no wine snobs here! They can pair you with the taste that you seek (and often with a range of options!).
My husband found the Cork Tree Tavern in Amherst online when we were driving our daughter back to college nearby. I can't believe it isn't already on TripAdvisor, because it's excellent. It has been discovered because it was packed when we visited. Outdoor and indoor seating, a handsome bar and a terrific menu for food as well as wine and cocktails, and a romantic atmosphere combine to make this a standout anywhere. The pastas were outstanding, the vegetarian risotto delicately delicious, salads and flatbread wonderful. A trio of miniature cupcakes for dessert capped a dinner that could not have been improved upon. Our server was personable and knowledgeable, which added to our complete enjoyment of the evening. Don't miss the Cork Tree Tavern -- it's worth the drive!

Living in NEO, we love to visit the lake to watch the sunset. Tonight we planned to try a restaurant ahead of time, and discovered a gem. Though the bank closed after the crash of â29, the building still houses local treasures. To call James âour waiterâ would truly be an understatement. He was our thoughtful host, our attentive guide. He welcomed us, and treated us, like old friends. We enjoyed our cheese & meat board (yes, theyâll combine them for you! ) The board was a great combination of flavors and textures, and the port/cherry chutney deserves its own shout out!My husbandâs filet and parmesan herb risotto was âamazing.â In his top 5 of steak experiences. (Cooked medium plus.)My ravioli with lobster was delicious, with spinach, asparagus, red peppers and onion. And yes. The molten chocolate cake, with a nice crust on the outside and gooey goodness on the inside, and a side of salted caramel ice cream was the perfect âto shareâ dessert. A spontaneous trip-to-the-lake turned into a great memory. PS. Be sure to stop at the Vermillion Lighthouse; the sunsets are a work of art.
