Me and my husband visited in January 2020 (before Covid) but writing the review late and TA is not showing Jan 20 in the dropdown list of "when did you travel?". It was complete winter, chilled. This is part of Eco Tour Orissa and booking done on-line at the site given. Phone no is of the caretaker of the FRH. The FRH can accommodate three families : one tree house and 2 in normal concrete GuestHouse. We stayed in Tree House, a lifetime experience. 30ft from the ground the tree house is made using the big trunks of a Banyan tree and this village is the den of Asian Giant Squirrel. Few of them are inhabitant of the same tree, so view of the same guaranteed. Besides you will be charmed with the chirping of the birds in day and call of crickets in the night; but surprisingly no mosquitoes. The Treehouse comes with a lounge, a room and a western toilet with shower, geyser and fittings. The room has two twin beds, a table and two chairs, two stand fans , one wardrobe, one dressing table with full mirror, soft quilts and an Air-conditioner fitted on the trunk of the tree. No driver accommodation, food will be given on payment; but own car is must. As the FRH has no ATM, shops etc nearby. No TV, so be prepare to amuse among yourself, but request you not to break the tranquility of the place with loud music and DJs. Avoid the place if you are not in love of wild living. No harddrinks, but little ice will be served. Except weak Jio, no other networks too. Best to do the jungle trail. May visit the nearby places like Blackbuck Nature Camp , Ganjam another wildlife destination to watch the blackbucks in their natural habitat. Alos some more attractions are there like Biju Patnaik Children's Park, Taratarini Temple, Jiranga Monastery, Chilika etc.

Good things first The entry is right opposite to Toshali resort which we somehow had never observed though we crossed it several times. The moment you enter you get the jungle feel, the scene is superb. Food quality and quantity is good, is home made odiya cuisine. The staff is courteous and you get generous helpings. Mattress quality ia excellent, hard bed and very comfortable. Bathroom is nice, with all new fittings. There is a nearby beach (though the property has nothing to do with this) which is pristine and best beach i have seen in Puri. Its within the jungle area so its really private and clean...seems only accessed by Toshali and Nature camp visitors. Areas of improvement - plenty. Its a typical case of govt property, excellent location but nothing beyond that. There was no security check when we entered the property. There is no reception. For 5-7 mins we were unable to figure out where to go. The staff is lousy and not proactive at all. We were given cottage 1, AC didnot work there so we moved to cottage 2. Cottage is spacious enough for a family of 2 adults and 1 child, there is no space to accommodate another individual. The AC cover was probably not cleaned since it was installed, remote didnot work well...and these are non inverter ACs, so the sound of compressor starting every now and then is irritating. No toiletries were provided until we asked...only soap and shampoo...I would expect more for 5k cost. There is no activity to be done or arranged by the staff while there is scope for so much. There could be cycles provided to tourist to explore the jungle areas...some nature trail walk u der guidance of a guide..local crafts and/or cultural shows - there is a small stage which could be used for the same. The property has 1 slide, 2 swings and a rope climb activity area - thats it. Landscaping can be lot better now its bare minimum. When asked whats there to do, the staff had a lousy response - nothing much, go to beach near by. This is a good place if you just want to be away from home but get home cooked food and just read relax. Kids are bound to get bored, unless you plan a trip to konark puri etc There are 10 cottages, all are same in size and amenities. Cottage 7-10 have a view of the river if u sit outside the tent.
Best accomodation with sea river forest facing rooms with ac and gyser

We went to Bhitarkarnika in early Feb 2022. It was quite an effort to gather info about how to reach the place from Bhubaneshwar, where to stay, what is the environment and weather like, will we get veg / vegan food, etc. We then took a pre-booked cab to Bhitarkarnika & reached the place around 1730 in the evening after starting from BBR around 1300, with a lunch break and a stop at Salepur for the famed rosogollas. Once we hit Bhitarkarnika, it took a bit of an effort to find Sand Pebbles and at first sight, we thought, gosh! doesn't look like what we imagined. However, once we entered and checked into our luxury tent, we were amazed to see such modern facilities in the middle of nowhere, as the terrain around is very rural. We had a great AC tent with an attached bath with very good fittings and with all the small creature comforts. The temp dropped like crazy in the night and we were not prepared for it. Fortunately, they had a room heater which saved us! The service (in such a place) was of gold standard and the resort manager - Pabitra, took very good care of us despite the inclemental weather and also provided us with the kind of veg food we are used to having. The place serves non-veg as well. We also visited a Lord Jugganath temple in the nearby village, believed to be 500 years old and had an ethereal experience in the evening during the Aarti. The croc expedition was exhilarating and 100% worth the effort.
It's a homestay located amidst the Satkosia Jungle, under the Panchadhara Mountain Ranges in the Athmallik district of Odisha.
