I didn't even make it to the hostel. I was trying to book a 5 night stay for two people. First time I called, they didn't even give me prices/availability and told me to ask for a quote over email. I did and nobody replied. I called again and was told it takes up to 4 hours to get a response. I waited but still didn't hear from them. Finally got an answer over their facebook fanpage; rude, cold straight-to-the-point answer. I was going to ignore all of this anyway and book because the price for a dorm was the cheaper I found (which still 240 pesos per person is not so cheap for a dorm), but when I called to confirm the requirements for booking, they treated me like they were doing me a favor, not even a "hello" and on top of everything, they were pushing me to book the private room and I was asked to pay for the FULL amount before arrival, with NO CANCELATION refund. I understand to be asked for 50%, but paying for the whole thing is just crazy, when there's not even enough pictures of the private rooms on their website or social media. This place is a complete JOKE. Hostals are supposed to have a cozy warmth atmosphere, this people have no idea what a Hostal actually is.

MONTERROCO HOSTEL is a wonderful colonial house, (RECOMMENDED BY LONELY PLANET, LETS GO AND THE WORLD BY ROAD).Located in one of the most secure and attractive zones, near the downtown area (Cathedral, Macro Plaza, Zona Rosa), Barrio Antiguo (a zone full of bars, cafes, restaurants and fun) and Valle zone (the most modern area in Monterrey)All the rooms are charming, comfortable and clean, also we have lockers in every room and independent bathrooms. Our facilities also include: Free internet, BBQ terrace, tv area, fully equipped guest kitchen, swimming pool, table tennis, laundry and much more...We will be glad to help you in anything you need....Know and live Monterrey, the City of Mountains.
I met many travellers here and the host is such a warm guy. But the rooms are pretty typical. The bathroom works well, the rooms are clean (but the bunk beds creak). I would say it is worth the price since it is not too expensive, but probably not worth the hype. Will come back again, but for the memories. Oh! And some taxi drivers cant find the address, so it will be useful to have a little map with you.

Beautiful and cozy, located in the cultural center of the city of Monterrey, very central, just a few blocks from the Museum of Contemporary Art (MARCO), Paseo Santa Lucia, the Three Museums, restaurants, subway, antique shops , galleries and other cultural spaces. Also here you can find beautiful artwork and arts & crafts workshops @La Madriguera Espacio Cultural just beneath the hostel.
A friend and I backpacked here and really enjoyed our stay. The owner is extremely nice and helpful. There is an art gallery downstairs where locals come for workshops and small community events. It can get hot in the bedrooms with the summer heat, but there are fans in the bedrooms and when you need to cool down after the day, there is an AC in the common area.

I stayed here two nights and honestly can not figure out how any of these nice reviews were written. This was hands down the worst hostel I stayed at in a year in Latin America - sure the beds are comfortable with power sockets but don't expect to spell. First night there was a party right outside the dorm with loud music, yelling etc until 5am and karaoke. I kid you not - hostel staff were pretty much not existent for my entire stay except I'm pretty sure they were the ones drinking that night. No one by the door so even though there is security if the door doesn't close (or the password doesn't change) anyone can come and go - and then on the second night someone was going through all the things in the dorm brazenly whole people slept. A Japanese guy had something stolen. The person just would walk through the dorms and I actually woke up to him looking in through my curtains with his hands inside my bed!!!!! He then came back 2 different times being aided and watching me through the curtains. He was not a guest .... but no one was around to stop him. Also this night radio played all night outside at high blast so might as well have been in room (thin walls) but I wasn't sleeping anyway after all this. Very unsafe hostel - I honestly wouldn't even call it a hostel as they seem to get be running a space for themselves and leave whenever. Weird and horrible - you won't sleep here, so just stay somewhere else. Oh and the showers were dirty, never had toilet paper and were *cold* at all times. But really - thats the least of your worries.

Horrible place Awful service, dirty sheets, dirty bathrooms, no water pressure on showers, no staff in on weekends and night time, bunk beds without stairs, broken lockers. Worst place ever! We have arrived on a Saturday, were shown our room by a lady, then we saw the dirty sheets, missing pillows, missing towels...

I've stayed in many hostels in Mexico (and around the world) and this is one of the worst. Completely lacks any frills, no lounge/common area for dining or socialising. Not even any decoration or style, completely bland. Like staying in an institution. Depressing! The day I was there the office was locked and no one from the management was around all day. 240 pesos a night, no breakfast isn't exactly cheap either. Unless you're desperate-avoid!
