Things to do in Marmande

I have to say that we only stayed for three days at Marmande and the last day after our tour we were late for dinner, by late I mean 9:30 p.m., but considering it was Saturday evening we hoped we would be able to have food.We were almost giving up when someone advised us Dolce Cubana was the only place in Marmande to have dinner and it was correct and saved us from starvation. It is a kind of tapas bar/night club. Tapas are quite acceptable, I highly recommend the chorizo croquetas. Personnel is friendly and even though the place was very busy, they managed to serve our food quite quickly. People having drinks only seemed to be having really good time, music was nice and not too loud, so if you are having dinner and want to talk you will be able to keep the conversation.

Grillades à la cheminée , cuisine de terroir , BÅuf de race à viande , convivial et rapide , calamars en fricassés aux légumes , cuisine d' Abats , parking privé
We went for lunch. The daily specials on the board outside were mostly not available so we ordered moules then the waitress vanished before we could order starters or drinks. She ignored us for a further 30 mins, after which we got up and left.I can't speak to the food quality, because we never got any, but the prices seemed high for what is basically a working man's cafe with a very limited and rather boring menu.Terrible.

My wife and I visited this restaurant for lunch in September, now in itâs third reincarnation since I first reviewed it. It is significantly different to the previous owners when it was known as Bouchon de Marmande and then LâAtelier. It is situated just off the main market square and has outside tables overlooking the pleasant green and plenty of tables inside but more on this later. The new owners are the same as the adjacent La Grange (also reviewed). There was a â¬15 menu which featured a duck tart and curried veal with fruit crumble for dessert, but we opted for a two course a la carte choice which is quite extensive. I had carpaccio of duck breast which was tasty and my wife had a fresh salad. She was going to choose the large one as a starter but was advised by the helpful waiter that this would be huge. Even the small one when it came was quite substantial consisting of two types of melon, Serrano ham, smoked salmon and lettuce all drizzled with a salty oil dressing. For main course we had fillet of veal in ginger and a large filleted St Peter fish both dishes having bags of flavour. These were served with ratatouille style vegetables and a sweet potato soufflé. Altogether it was a very good lunch and we were surprised how reasonable it was at just â¬51 not including drinks.I mentioned the tables and this is perhaps the only criticism. We found them to be very tightly packed and frankly not very conducive to a relaxing lunch especially as two neighbouring tables both smoked. Having said that, the restaurant is run very efficiently and courteously by the team of waiters. We recommend a visit if you are in Marmande.

What a treat to meet up with friends at this Fish restaurant. You are welcomed by a great selection of fish on display and what an assortment it is! Everything which all looked very fresh and inviting and of course was used in the Dishes prepared on the Menu... we selected the Potage of shellfish which was a deep and flavourful dark orange colour. Served with Aioli and croutons, wonderful. Then a Sole Meuniere served with new potatoes and roasted peppers with a garlic mayonnaise. Moules and Frites were excellent as well. Washed down with a Sancerre which was one of the best I have had the pleasure of drinking for a long while. It was expensive but a real treat. Café Gourmande to finish. A meal to remember Iâm sure for a long timeThe service was good, friendly and efficient, simple ambiance but good feelings with the locals obviously enjoying it as well.

Open on a Sunday (not to be taken for granted in France), Les Glycines has an almost sixties/seventies vibe with its swimming pool, terrace and vibrant colours..one could imagine Roger Moore or Sean Connery sipping cocktails with a glamorous female companion in tow. Too be frank, things didn't start too well as, apart from being briefly offered aperitifs, we had to wait approaching half an hour for somebody to take our order...not a crisis unless, of course, you have a lively but hungry two year old to entertain for all that time. In fairness , when we were served, the manageress / owner was charm itself and we were all given an extremely tasty amuse bouche.....a savoury take on a pannacotta. All four of our party had opted for the set 19 Euro menu with starters of fried egg on chopped ham or a tomato and mozzarella salad, both being tasty and in good portions. Main course options were salted cod (a local speciality) or rolled shoulder of lamb which was tenderness itself and literally fell apart at the first approach of cutlery. This was served up with broccoli, mini turnip and a savoury souflait. Desserts were equally impressive with my choice being a delicious walnut cake served with coconut ice cream. The alternative was an excellent pannacotta served with a strawberry jus. Overall an excellent meal but that wait....

This is definitely a restaurant for a special occasion. Everything about it oozes style and quality, from the building itself through the décor, the service by a knowledgeable Maitre D and of course the food. Located along one of the main roads leading out of the town of Marmande, it had only been open just over a year when my wife and I visited it in September 2012. There were two menus available for dinner, a four course menu at 42⬠and a more extensive one (menu saveurs) at â¬60. We opted for the latter and enjoyed a splendid seven courses cooked expertly by Annabelle Boat. We were told that Annabelle had trained in Talence, near Bordeaux and at restaurants nearby. An amuse bouche consisted of melon with mint, sautéed fish ball with creamy vegetable emulsion and a chopped vegetable pate. The starter was pan fried foie gras with a crumble of red fruits and rice flower. This course was highly unusual and exceptional. Next there was a dish of squid horns stuffed with finely diced vegetables cooked in stock and accompanied by octopus. The whole thing was set off by a magnificent fish sauce. A fish course of monkfish served with crispy polenta, tomato, garlic, basil and olive oil which also came with deep fried fennel. The crowning glory was milk fed veal which just melted in your mouth and served with a highly reduced jus, carrots and onion cream. A selection of cheeses is included and we had Roblechon and Tombe. The sweet course was a trio of ice cream in a soufflé coat, a very tasty rum Baba and a chocolate coffee mousse. There is an impressive range of coffees depending on your preference for light, medium or strong. There is a good list of Bordeaux wines and some from Provence if you prefer Rose. Most are in the price range of 15⬠to 25⬠but there are more expensive bottles if you are a wine connoisseur or want to try out the more prestigious labels. All in all a very fine dining experience produced by a young chef with a real love for her profession.

Excellent location in a quiet quadrangle, making eating outside on the patio really quiet with no traffic noises or passes by. The actual restaurant was modern but small, but in summertime outside spaces on the terrace are numerous. We had the three course set lunch which was very acceptable, a light starter, sirloin steak with vegetables and a peach tart. A meal for two with half litre of wine came to under 40 euros. Expect the meal to be long , but staff very pleasant , would definitely pay another visit.

We've been coming here on and off when in the region for 6 years and never had a bad meal, on the contrary our experiences here have been consistently delightful. While the menu du jour has only 1 choice there's this is not uncommon in France and there's an excellent a la carte menu if you don't want the daily special - both are tempting. The wine list has something for most tastes and budgets and service has always been polite, friendly and helpful with special requests. My wife had the steak tartare which she chose to compose herself and came with all the ingredients and which she found excellent and no stomach problems! Two of us had the menu du jour a tasty piece of beef probably bavette that was tender, well prepared and tasty. It's worth a word here about the fries.....our experience of fries in France is not that good - all too often the wrong potatoes are used and the oi not hot enough resulting in somewhat greasy chips....NOT SO HERE ! These are as good as you'll find any where whether double fried or not - perfectly crisp outside, soft and fluffy inside and not at all greasy - perfect! Over all our meal for 4 including 2 menus du jour and 2 a la carte with apero's, wine, dessert and coffees came to 112 euros or 28 each - I'd say that's pretty good value. We'll be back for sure. Merci Thierry and Katharina.
