We visited on 16th April this year on our way home from Carcassonne. Fortunately we had booked a table prior to arrival. Staff were very friendly. Restaurant atmosphere was very relaxing, nicely decorated with suitable lighting. Menu was varied. the food was absolutely first class, well presented and prepared. Staff explained each course when brought to table.Thoroughly recommend a visit as it was an excellent evening. We will book again when next at Brive

We met friends for lunch here and had chosen this restaurant from the comments and also the photos on trip advisor. Service was friendly and efficient. We had the plat du jour and dessert. Both were nicely presented and very good but not presented on slate so maybe the evening menu has different presentation. All in all with two kirs, two mineral waters, a glass of red wine, 3 plat du jour , 3 desserts and one entrecôte, the bill came to just under 60 euros which seemed excellent value. The restaurant was full so I Imagine booking is necessary in holiday time

Used Trip Advisor to find this on a visit to Brive, and the reviews were spot on, lovely restaurant, friendly and knowledgeable staff, food was very good quality, and with three courses for 13 euros, also excellent value, it will be our first choice on our next visit. Can recommend the red wine by the glass - Les Pierres de Tourmentine, and its Bio produced!

We were very pleased visiting this restaurant. Regardless the fact that this saturday the Festival d'Elevage took place - so it was very crowded - we were welcomed with courtesy and warmth. The meal was very tasty: asuperb ham for starters and a dish with hashed meat that was really good. We took the open wine, white and red, which went fine along with the food. And all this for a price that was really reasonable. You will not be disappointed visiting this restaurant!Niek Ketting, living in the Perigord.

Really enjoyable meal, the setting is great, plenty of space inside or out. We were served by the proprietor and a waitress, both were great in different ways, the waitress really courteous and helpful, the proprietor just very entertaining.Food was fabulous, dinner menu had 4/5 choices in each section, 2 course around 29 EUR, 3 course 34 EUR (I think), wine list from 18 EUR.Loved all the food and ambience and will hopefully be in Brive again to revisit.

Have visited brive la Gaillarde on several occasions and when in France it's an absolute must to taste the culinary delights. This little gem, which includes a quaint hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard and was made very welcome by the owner. The menu was minimum..so one didn't have to page through a book and was easy to make a choice, with either a set plat du jour or a choice of individual dishes. The food was outstanding and their local wines which accompanied were first class..the attention to detail could not be faulted.. A thoroughly enjoyable last supper before heading home

4 of us for lunch. I tend to think of three things when looking at a restaurant - ambience, food and service. Let's take ambience first; a bit off the beaten track ( 2 minutes, no more), restrained decor but some fun touches and artworks - good quality fixtures and fittings - plates and glasses not quite fine-dining but pretty close. Tables spaced well. A good start.Food. Unqualifiedly fantastic. Starters are very detailed and each detail works in the dish as a whole - a very delicate touch with spicing and seasoning and some top notch ingredients. Mains - veal and pork - were up to the same standard with an attention to detail I've only seen in Michelin starred establishments - and 2 stars at that in many cases. Desserts are well thought through - generous portions and stylish presentation. Coffee and treats excellent. Faultless. I don't often say that but it is true of this place. Excellent wine list which is also excellent value.Service highly professional but unfussy.Thank you for a memorable meal and long may it continue - we are all looking forward to coming back and while Brive is not local to me it's worth the trip for a meal of this quality.

First impressions of this restaurant is great. Lovely decour, great table layouts. The service seemed friendly enough. Then things started to go wrong. We were offered their "trademark" Mojitos, only to be informed that they had run out of mint. Punch, and some wine ordered instead. When the starters of salad with ham arrived, we had to remind them about the wine, it was dumped on the table by a sullen waitress who continued to treat us all through the lunch as if we were a real inconvience. The salad itself was, at best, forgettable with, I am sure, a bottled vinaigrette. My main course of steak with pasta was simply awful. In a region of France that produces some of the best beef anywhere, mine was flavourless and a little tough. The pasta was very overcooked, completely lacked seasoning, and only tasted of flour. It was served with exactly the same salad and dressing as the starter. At one point, I had to ask the waitress to stop the kitchen staff smoking right outside the window where I was sitting, as all I could taste and smell was their smoke. In retrospect, that at least provided some flavour!Dessert was a packet "creme anglaise" (custard) with a processed raspberry coulis. This place is style over substance, and one to avoid. Just overall dreadful food matched by dreadful service.

Had the tasting menu and worth every penny. Beautifully presented and every mouthful marvellous. You do need to book as there are only about 18 covers, and you will probably need Google Maps to find it. But worth the effort. The restaurant is bright, and tables very spread out. There is even a childrenâs menu. Currently open Wednesday through Sunday and practice your French as no English is spoken (no bad thing!).

Friendly Staff, good wine selection and light food. Sit outside during nice weather but the atmosphere is better inside.
