Curiously expensive local niceties
Reviewed By angantyssonThis was interesting. It´s basically like being invited to dinner at a rich uncle´s house who knows how to cook. It´s a bit weird but the food was okay and the fish was super fresh and nice. The environment is amazing but the town itself is a bit of a ghost town so I don´t know what else to recommend there. The rooms themselves are extremely basic especially given the price tag which is just ridiculous when I think about it. If you yourself are of the rich uncle variety then I would definitely recommend this place, otherwise I think your money is better spent elsewhere.

Very good if you love bad smell and flies
Reviewed By 214vitogI give only one star because i can’t give zero. Worst guesthouse of my trip in Iceland! When we arrived in the guesthouse, there was a disgusting fishy smell. But that’s not the worst thing: in every room there were lots of flies. We brought a spray to kill them, but that wasn’t enough. Then, the owner (that was not in town) gave us other rooms that was used and dirty. We agreed a refund at the phone, but then they said that we didn’t deserve it because we slept anyway (The alternative was sleep in the car). I absolutely do not recommend it.

Family run with pride
Reviewed By Peeter PFrom the very first greeting, we could sense that this family-run hotel was going to be warm and welcoming. We were very lucky to get room 32, with a spectacular 180 degree view of the estuary. The room was clean, warm and with all the amenities we expected. Dinner was marvellous as was the breakfast. We only stayed one night, as our tour company wisely thought this somewhat remote hotel was a good stopover on our 14-day journey around Iceland. The Country Hotel was one of the top places during our visit to this wonderful country.

But satisfying Lovely living room where you can enjoy coffee and tea on the house Not very cheap... basic. .we were two couples and one couple thought it was a bit expensive. All and all... very nice stay and we all slept well!

The house has been fully reconstructed, with special emphasis given to maintaining its original external appearance. Inside it now contains luxurious accommodation, incorporating four double rooms with bath, a living room, dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen.

Reviewed By Beverly PNeed clearer communication prior to arrival as we didn't have cell serve. Wanted breakfast, but didn't happen even though we requested it when we made reservation. It was a Sunday so nothing was open in Hofso. If you want/need food, I recommend you bring your own.

Waited for an hour for 3 burgers, 2 chicken combos and 2 orders of breadsticks (only got one) Our entertainment was watching the next table being asked 3 times for their order. Once it was because their waitrss left in the middle of service and did not turn their order over to the kitchen. Best breadsticks ever! Good food, terrible service. Easily the worst restaurant in Iceland ever!

Guesthouse in the middle of Skagafjordur at Hegranes peninsula. The house was built in 1907 and carefully renovated. From the house there are stunning views over the river, the mountains and the sea. From september - april you can see the northern lights when clear sky in the nights. In summer it's perfect for hiking or horseback riding on our 360 ha of land. We have 5 double rooms with shared facilities, breakfast is included april - september. Want to go on skiing, there is a really nice facility for downhill skiing att Tindastóll outside Saudarkrókur. Only 10 minutes to the center of Saudarkrokur. A

Some bad things (1) No breakfast or other food and at least 15 minutes drive away from restaurants (2) Only one tiny bathroom shared by five or so guest rooms. (3) Smallish rooms (4) Very reasonable price for what it is. (5) Decent wifi in common areas--very weak in rooms If you are expecting a hostel, you will love it. If you are expecting a hotel, you will be disappointed. On balance, it is great for what it is, but disappointing for what it is not.

Bed to Sleep
Reviewed By Travelassist17Key box code not received by mail, as mentioned in booking process. Also no response after asking for it by mail a few days in advance. Therefore phone call during checkin process which end pretty quick after getting the code. Clean room with bed and nothing else. No water cooker, toaster or something else. (As common in Island Hotel rooms) Public room shown on pictures not open to public. So yes there is a bed to sleep but nothing else. Regarding food there is only a gas station near by, no restaurants are available in this area and there is none at the „Hotel“.
