We had an address that was supposedly a pizzeria. Instead it was Restaurante Gaio. Although it was 4 P.M. they did welcome us in and were quite friendly. We were the only ones in the restaurant! We quickly scanned the menu and found vegetarian options. We both ordered a large salad and an omelet with rice and fries. The food was quite good and we enjoyed their cooking. It was nice to hear the interaction between the owners and their young kids. They certainly cared for them. The restaurant was quite rustic, which made it even more romantic! The bill was quite cheap. Wow!

The first thing that comes out when you arrive at Açude is the location. Next to the river, it is definitely a privileged location, and if you have the time, you should definitely take the opportunity to have a walk across the river before or after your meal. The place itself is nice decorated and big windows overlooking the river, and if you can, make sure to ask for a table near the windows. Since I got in the service was excellent, not sure if it was because there was not many people that night, but the service was definitely very good.Last, but definitely not the least for a restaurant, the food was amazingly delicious. All the starters and main dishes were excellent and this is definitely a place to go back one day.Truly recommended.

A group of us had the â menu of the dayâ here. Nice veg soup, grilled fish or fried pork or turkey, with salad and potatoes, a pudding, coffee and wine for 6.50E each. Plain but tasty, well cooked food, perfectly drinkable local wine and charming quick service. What more could you ask for! Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant again last night (visited last in July 2015) and I am very pleased to report that they are maintaining their very high standards.Once again the service, wine and food were excellent - in particular the beef medallions were outstanding.Unfortunately this restaurant is a little tucked away and I would therefore suggest that you make the effort to seek it out - I'm confident that you will not be disappointed.

Dear customers, Will be closed for holidays Reopen on 7th day of november 2015 Thank you for your understanding (Management)
The best thing about this place is the interior décor. It looks like a movie set for "Zorro". The second best thing is the young man (presumably the son or nephew of the owner) who waits on table. He is the only person in the establishment that knows a bit of English. (The menu is in English, however, but no Spanish spoken here, by the way, or even understood). Now let me get to the food. We ordered steaks cooked in wine, which my guidebook said was a specialty of the house. The steak arrived. They were tough as shoe leather, and smothered (as seems to be the tradition in this country) in cheese, ham, and an egg sunny side up. You had to drill deep to find the meat. We weren't able to finish or even eat very much. The wine, however, suggested by our waiter, was first rate. It appears to be a restaurant mainly frequented by locals, but of course at this point Ponte de Lima is not yet a major tourist destination. Too bad, it is a lovely, lovely place.

As a group of three friends we had a splendid first trial at this restaurant on a Sunday lunch. The restaurantâs site and setting is fabulous! The refurbished stone house where the restaurant functions was well recovered with good architectural taste. The surrounding gardens are very well kept, enriching oneâs experience. The main interior of the restaurant has a great layout and the fireplace located at the entrance is fantastic! It is beautiful, as well as functional - it warms up the restaurant making it cozy. âA Carvalheiraâ is very sought out, thus one absolutely has to book in advance. The staff are friendly and helpful. For starters we chose the seasoned boiled squid tapas, as well as the cured ham, accompanied by âbroaâ - all splendid! For main course we chose the roasted porkâs leg, served with roasted potatoes, delicious white rice and green sauted vegetables. Absolutely divine! For dessert we had âpudim Abade de Priscosâ (a delicious conventual sweet pudding), as well as cheese. It was a âheaven on earthâ Sunday lunch well savoured! Highly recommend this Restaurant for food lovers!

It is called "Petiscas" in homage familiar to a great cook of this earth. Here you can taste the traditional snacks, the petinga, the fried potatoes, the rojões, ... along with a comprehensive menu. The Wine Charter, with more than thirty brands, represen
Pleasant staff in a great setting just over the bridge with good local food and wine. Sat both inside and outside on different days, just great - a well run slightly higher end restaurant that has a relaxed atmosphere and some great views with friendly service. Liked it so much we returned for a second visit. Got a great wine recommendation, went to the vineyard the next day to buy supplies for home.

This out if the way, family run restaurant is always bustling. No one speaks anything other than Portuguese and that's just the way we like it. There are only a few dishes - but people come from miles to eat the bacalhau. Servings are huge and my friends loved their steak too.

Having eaten in most of the restaurants in Ponte de Lima I don't understand why Diamanté Azul is rated 27th. It should be up there in the top 3. The food is excellent, steak with 3 pepper sauce is delicious. The service is very good. Our waiter was attentive with a great knowledge of Portuguese wines. So much better than most of the restaurants by the river. Well worth a try.
