Things to do in Tromso

Our first night's meal in Tromso was a success at DuVerden. Just 100m from the Radisson Blu we walked easily but realised you need your Yaktraks on your walking boots and of course winter coats. It was slightly hard to find nevertheless, climbing some fairy-light-lit steps on to a wide balcony (of sheer ice in parts) where the entrance was not that clear. Entering, we were greeted by a pleasant front of house young man who found us a nice table overlooking the fjord despite not having booked. The restaurant was busy and plates with lamb shanks disappearing to several tables suggested that as a good choice - and it was for my wife. I had the stock fish (dried re-hydrated cod) which was lovely. A glass of white wine for her and a large beer for me complemented the food perfectly. The iPad-style menu was a first for us, never seen that anywhere and we had to have help navigating it from a helpful, sympathetic waitress. I suppose that's the future alas. But DuVerden is certainly recommended. I have read the other poor reviews but that was not our experience. You should give this place a try. We are an English couple in our 70th year with no connection with DuVerden. It was recommended by our daughter who visited a few weeks previously.
We went there twice but only for drinks so in a way the review is not complete. But we found the atmosphere lovely, the staff very friendly and its location awesome. We did see the food and it looked great.

It was my first day at tromso and my partner and I were hungry as we just arrived in tromso. After searching for a place to eat, we decided to try this restaurant. It looked very pretty from the outside and not as crowded as the rests we had visited (they were full). Firstly, the waiter was crude and very snappy, he seemed to be having PMS? Or perhaps heâs having a bad day. Then the food was very salty. The Halibut and pork ribs over cooked. Not tender (I tried Halibut at another restaurant it was totally different and tastes amazing) And how oddly the waiter can tell us that they served authentic Norwegian food which maybe too heavy for our liking when I replied his query about howâs our food. I feel like telling him that this restaurant was the one and only worst we had ever eaten in Norway but I didnât. It was pointless, he seemed so proud of his Norwegian dishes and his superior air about how I would not know what he was saying even if he told us the WiFi password as it was in Norwegian. I had to get up from my table and go read the password located behind the bar as he commands so. So much for looking like a high-class fine dining restaurant! His demeanour and the unproperly cooked foods had left us a very unpleasant evening. Perhaps the restaurant should just put a sign which says âNorwegian onlyâ? I will definitely recommend anyone not to visit this restaurant. It would ruin your day, not even to a local as their food certainly is a failure.

Welcome to our new restaurant in the heart of Tromsø city centre. A delightful place to eat in Tromsøs architectural diamond Kystens Hus- and a combination of good-dining and lovely scenery charm as rated by our diners. Proving to be a hit with our guests
We had been left at a loose end in Tromso and decided to wander round to find something to eat. We saw this place and it looked very nice, although not many people inside. We decided to give it a go. It seemed quite expensive, but then everything in Norway is more expensive. My husband likes steak but bravely tried the reindeer steak while I ordered the seafood platter. Our waitress was very sweet. We were brought a bread basket and water which was very welcome. The food looked amazing when it arrived - my seafood platter was enormous. Something I wasn't expecting was for the scallops to be raw...never had that before. I did eat them with some trepidation and they were clearly extremely fresh, but I would have preferred them cooked. The King Crab was absolutely amazing - so much meat on it and no fiddling about with claw crackers or anything messy. Fabulous. My husband enjoyed his reindeer steak but not as much as a beef steak...the texture was hard to describe and nothing like the texture of any meat we are used to. We shared dessert and it was very nice. The service was good, my only criticism was that when served coffee, I had to ask for milk and then ask for sugar which was a bit annoying considering there were only three tables of people to serve. We were also a little shocked to see the suggested service charge was 25 per cent! Never seen that before and it made the meal terribly expensive to add on 25 per cent. We did not leave 25 per cent but left more than we would normally have done as a tip - and I think we are normally very fair at tipping since I used to be in the service industry. Overall though, I would say it was all very good and we did enjoy it .Thanks for the review. About suggested service charge. There is no such thing. I honestly dont understand where you have got that information. Clearly not on the menu and hopefully not from the waiter. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Welcome back

Restaurant with table service. Traditional food, fish, seafood, sea mammals. Located in an old stone house on the quayside in central Tromso
No, it's not a trap. Some of the locals will probably claim its a tourist trap. I've been there a few times and I had some fish soup at my last visit. That was one of my better calls on this trip. They had this fish soup buffe during lunch hours, and the guy working there convinced me I should give it a try. I'm glad he did. That's one of the best fish soups I've tasted in a long time. The selection of beer is also quite impressive compared to the other bars in Tromsø. So here you can combine a really good meal and choose between a good variation of beer. Not only local.

Iâm not a fan of one star ratings being liberally awarded because of one or two faults that are subjectively important to the reviewer. Likewise, dishing out five star rating as standard doesnât help people deciding where to eat. This place, however, is as deserving of a single star as anywhere I can recollect. The service did not exist and when it threatened to, it was abrupt, unhelpful and colder than the weather. The food was truly abysmal. The grouse breast had bones in it; the mussels were tiny and were served in a saline yet otherwise tasteless broth; and somehow even the cheese board was bad in a way Iâve never known anywhere to manage. We all know Norway is expensive but £75 per head for this beggars belief. Avoid.Dear SirSorry we could not deliver as expected and wanted. This is by no means as planned. If you are still in Tromsø, feel free to contact us.

Kitchen & Table Tromso by Marcus Samuelsson
We fancied a treat and decided to go to this beautiful restaurant on the mezzanine floor of the Clarion Edge Hotel after reading lots of very positive reviews! So glad we did!!I ordered the reindeer cooked medium and my wife ordered the Potato Potatoes with a Haloumi side.Wow! I have never eaten reindeer before - what can i say - it was delicious, tasty, lean, super tender and cooked to perfection! My wife's Potato and Haloumi dish was equally good! Delicious - top quality cooking! We managed to squeeze in a delicious Creme Brûlée and some sorbet and ice cream. Not cheap but well worth every penny!!Thank you for the great review and we are so happy you enjoyed it :) Hope to see you both again in the future!

Dining at Emma's restaurant can be both intimate and formal, but, above all, homely and relaxing. Our kitchen uses the best local produce to create good and honest north Norwegian cuisine. We serve both lunch and dinner, with dinner being available on 3 d
We had heard about this place and had luckily booked a table in advance. It was quite busy, lots of tourists celebrating New Years in Tromsø. The service was good and the food was very delicious. Our high expectations were met and we will go back if weâre ever in this city again.
