I wasn't even hungry and ordered their simplest burger. "Sot". Omg, what a delightful surprise. Great flavor. Also quite a nice atmosphere and good service. If you're in Hammerfest, make sure to try it.

I have eaten here a few times. As ever, eating out in northern Norway is an expensive and disappointing experience and this was no exception. We celebrated my father-in-law's 91st birthday here on 28th September. 4 of our party had the same tapas dishes, as they had heard that it was good. Opinions varied. My mother-in-law hardly ate any of her food, one of my sister-in-laws thought the food was wonderful, the other made no comment and my wife thought it was OK but nothing special. My father-in-law had the reindeer (330 kr) which was tough and dry. It was served without a sauce and they didn't have a steak knife for him; he ate less than half of his meal. This comes as no surprise as I have eaten the reindeer here before and found it to be the same as described above. I had the fish 'n chips; which was OK but nothing special. Portion sizes are modest but 235 kr for fish 'n chips is very steep. The food is very pretentious and, coupled with the modest portion size, does not justify its price. The menu is rather limited. Desserts were better, I enjoyed my ice-cream and coffee. Alcohol is mega-expensive.The restaurant is within the Smart hotel which is a very new building. The restaurant is very pleasantly decorated but lacks an atmosphere. Its location by the sea-front is stunning. The service from the Croatian waitress was good; she was very patient with my aging parents-in-law.

Qa was not what I expected. We found it randomly while wandering the waterfront and Sentrum and smelling scrumptious food smells. We followed our noses to Qa, which I originally thought was a Asian cuisine restaurant. The menu was an eclectic mix of Norwegian favourites, biffsnader, lasagne, sandwiches and burgers, Mexican food, salads, Asian dishes, and schnitzel. Impressive variety. The food ranged from generous to confused, rich and flavourful to indifferent. We covered the whole menu and concluded that we all liked our meals, as they were familiar comfort foods, but in the end it was comparitively an average meal with above average service. For example, the grilled chicken sandwich had a generous breast of chicken, butterflied, but it came with guacamole, salsa, and a creamy remoulade, which I was not sure would have complimented the sandwich. Two versions of biffsnader were on the menu and both were excellent. A side of onion rings, at 43 kroner, was a letdown as it was blandly battered and contained only 5 rings.Service as I mentioned was great. Tableside, courteous, efficient and attentive. It was a pleasant change. Qa is a step up from one of those ubiquitous pizza/kebab shoppes. More variety, higher quality. I recommend it.

Great early dinner at Brygga Mathus yesterday. The fish soup and lamb was awesome and everything else really good. The ingredients were all fresh. Even the Chef was visible and the young waitress very helpful. Great experience at great location infront of the pier of the famous white russian refugee whale âVhaldimirâ. Thank you :))
