Derry (/ˈdɛri/), officially Londonderry (/ˈlʌndənˌdɛri/), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name Derry is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name Daire (modern Irish: Doire) meaning "oak grove". In 1613, the city was granted a Royal Charter by King James I and gained the "London" prefix to reflect the funding of its construction by the London guilds. While the city is more usually known colloquially as Derry, Londonderry is also commonly used and remains the legal name.

From the moment we went in the service was fabulous, Connor was very attentive, and our order was taken and delivered very quickly... Zara was super efficient in every aspect of our evening. Me and my Husband who are very picky both agreed that the food here is by far the best in Derry! Thank you to the front of house staff for everything and a very big thank you to the hard working chefs for a delicious meal. And to the owner of Sooty Olive for a wonderful experience. You have a wonderful team and manager. I wish you many many more years of success and we will definitely return!

So my family and I were staying at the City Hotel Derry and the hotel staff recommended the Mandarin Palace. Their recommendation was greatly appreciated as we had a very good meal. Myself and family went to oscars for my sons birthday it was a friday at 8pm the service was fine the waitress was very helpful and witty the place was very clean and inviting but that is where the good ended. both my sons had guinness and it was not the best. we all had starters and they were just passible. when the mains came, out of the four of us only one of my sons had an ok meal. my steak which i could not eat could have been used for shoe sole my wife had the chicken which came warm the white wine sauce tasted like vinager. They then claim there is 50% off everything thats a joke. there was only 4 of us we all had a main and starters and 1 drink each and the bill still came to £80 so that would make that meal £160 you are having a (LAUGH)i will never be back and would not recommend to anyone i know to eat at this place with all the places in derry to eat they would need to improve the standard of food get someone who can cook would be a help
