Hadn’t been here for some years and a recent visit reminded me why. Despite the place being anything but full, those who were there seemed to be particularly loud, making conversation among us very difficult. Atmosphere is one thing, but this volume was over and above comfort level. Nearly 15 minutes after being seated and provided with menus we had the opportunity to place our drinks order and were expected to order our food at the same time. Usually I expect to peruse the menu while savouring my first drink. Our various food orders arrived pleasantly promptly. My mini grill was almost overwhelmed by three mighty onion rings, which were easily the most flavoursome item on the plate. The sausage quality and taste were very poor. The mushroom, bacon and chicken were similarly down in identifiable flavour. The chunky chips were good. For sweet, my lemon cheesecake “with strawberries” was almost acceptable, but suffered by having just two quarter strawberries - not even a single whole one! This is not a place I can recommend, except for drinks outside, on a nice summer evening, looking out over Ballyholme bay and Belfast Lough. With a bit of thought applied, this could be an excellent venue because of its location.

I've been a big fan of this place for years, as well as Carmichael's other venues (see reviews) but was totally let down last night. Having checked online using good old Google I was under the impression that food was served until 9pm so it was with a sense of anticipation that we walked in to the place at 8.35pm, looking forward to another great meal in pleasant surroundings. To be told rather abruptly that the kitchen was closed meant a big disappointment and forced us to look elsewhere. The half hearted "sorry" that rang in our ears did little to assuage our disappointment. I would suggest that the owners make it clear on all their channels that no food is served at what is not surely a late hour on a sunny Monday evening in August. Google specifically advertises "late night food" being available. We were sad not to get the chance to enjoy the Bryansburn but all was not lost as we walked back in to Bangor and had a lovely meal in another restaurant. Firstly many thanks for taking the time to leave what we can only consider as constructive criticism. I have checked and confirm that Google my Business does in reflect the opening times of 12midday - 9pm on Mondays. The opening hours are quite confusing in that they should actually relate to the opening times in relation to the licensing laws namely 11:30am until 11:00pm on MondaysWe are in the process of giving our website https://bryansburninn.com a complete makeover and rest assured that our restaurant opening times for service will be prominently displayed. Please accept our apologies for the confusion created.#bryansburninn

First time in Ava on Sunday evening. First impressions were great. Lovely decor. Busy. Welcoming staff. Great smells! We both ordered a pint, then a main from the Sunday menu (2 courses for £13.95) My partner had the silverside, I opted for the cod. Both were faultless. Melt in the mouth. Flavours spot on. Perfect portion sizes. Staff were very patient, friendly, with just the right attentiveness. After main plates were taken we asked to see the dessert menu. My partner asked what the cheesecake was (lemon) and I chose the pavlova. The girl returned fairly soon after and said they had no pavlova left (which I got coz I had seen several others being served it!) I then switched to the cheesecake too. Meantime we were offered more drinks, which we declined until after our dessert. The girl then came to our table, went to set down our plates, and said 'sorry, it's oreo cheesecake'.... I'm sorry, what???? I get it. Mistakes happen. Misunderstandings. Whatever. But when someone orders beef they don't expect a dish of fish. My partner shook his head. Definite no. I said to the girl I wouldn't be a fan at all but I'd try it, and asked her to hold on a sec. She set my plate down and walked on to the counter to speak to other staff. The cheesecake really wasn't to my liking so I got up with my plate and followed her to the counter and said 'sorry, no I really can't'I went and sat back down. For whatever reason the staff stopped being attentive. We sat for at least 15 mins before I signalled to a lady to speak to her. I asked who she was, the manager, and then outlined our evening. She was not already aware that there had been an issue. We got an apology, yes. But no explanation. I tried to be constructive with my criticism as I do know that's the best way to learn and improve. In the end we settled with no dessert, and the lady gave us our original pints as complimentary. From being first class service and first class food for our main course, things just started to go downhill from there. I'm torn as to how many stars to leave for this review! I possibly will return in the future but would likely try other establishments first. Hopefully it's a learning experience for them as they have the potential to be no. 1 in Bangor.

Birthday lunch with the sisters. We were positioned at a large table towards the back to accommodate us all comfortably. The menu was not extensive but reasonable as were the prices. The service was efficient and the lady server was very friendly . There was one hiccup with the order but there were a lot of us and it was sorted quickly and without any unpleasantness. This was not the first time I’d eaten there and that time was also a success. All in all, I’d certainly recommend this as a good family restaurant with good food and friendly atmosphere.

This is a small restaurant at the bottom of Grays Hill near Bangor seafront which is closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday . It has an excellent reputation so, based on reviews and personal recommendation, my family and I visited yesterday evening as a party of 11. That number of people, coupled with the fact that it was a Saturday night, I think was a big mistake.Everything moved so slowly – it was like restaurants in Italy – they seemed not to be ready for people arriving and it took ages to get some drinks brought to the table, let alone put our food orders in. On the subject of drinks, you should note that they only do bottled beers – three different basic types or one cider. That was also a disappointment. Their wine list is a bit thin but gives an acceptable choice of wine types but no choice within the type. I attach a copy of the wine lists and menus for reference.None of the starters appealed to me or my wife so we asked that some bread and tapenade be brought to the table to keep those not having a starter busy while the others were having their starters. The bread came quite quickly but it then took another 25 minutes for the other starters to arrive ! It then took ages for the table to be cleared of starter plates as the restaurant had filled up to 12 + tables, all being served by only two people – it seemed difficult for them to decide what to do next – greet guests? clear tables? take orders? serve food?. We asked for some simple things – a glass of ice, another plate of bread etc. but we had to give them several reminders or actually go to the bar itself, to get the items we wanted.Approximately 1.45 minutes after arrival, the main courses were delivered and several were wrong and had to be changed. The vegetables did not arrive until some time later – one of our party had finished their meal before his potatoes arrived. In summary – the service is terrible and very badly organised. They just dont have enough waiters or a proper service planThe good things are 1 it is clean and airy, unlike a lot of Bangor restaurants,2 the 2 staff they did have seemed to be doing their best and were always cheerful and friendly.3 on complaint, the faults were fully accepted and fair recompense was made for the shortcomings4 when it eventually arrived, the actual food was excellent – I had a sirloin steak which was really nice, as was my wife’s plaice. The bad service was very frustrating and caused chaos in our party with food being slow and delivered to the table in bits and pieces. Also, being told on booking that we had to leave by 8.45 also became worrying as the speed of service meant that there was no way we could have had a three course meal delivered and eaten in 2 hours 45 minutes - we had to abandon the desserts. They did say that we could stay longer if we wanted but taxis had been booked for the deadline so we had to leave. The restaurant is very busy so they must be doing something right – I just think they have problems with tables of more than 4 people so be warned.I always end my reviews by saying if I would return? Probably no but maybe if we were a small party of say 2-4 people.

We called in for a bite to eat around 7pm. It was totally unplanned and there were quite a few diners in for a Tuesday evening. My husband and I went for the wine and dine menu and my daughter just opted for a main but shared our starters as they are so generous. We had been in a few weeks ago and my husband tried the Hong Kong chicken as a starter and loved it so opted for this as a main. He said it was better than any Chinese restaurant. We love Donegans because of the service from Lynne and Ivan as well as the excellent food. You never leave hungry here. Our bill was about £62! This included wine and a few soft drinks too! Excellent value for money. It really is the best place to eat in Bangor and we are frequent visitors as are many others. The staff know their regulars and I believe this speaks volumes! Give it a try.

I have been several times for breakfast and the place is always busy which is a good sign. The food offering is quite different to what is usually on offer in N. Ireland cafes and I mean this in a very positive way! The service is very friendly and efficient and the food is tasty and well presented. There is also a Guillemot deli/cafe next door which does take away food. If you’re in Bangor this is a great place for coffee, breakfast, lunch or a naughty sweet treat!

This is a real hidden gem. The food was the best food that i have had for ages. It is more expensive than other restaurants in the area, but dining here is a real experience. I strongly recommend for any foodies visiting the area. It is a smal restaurant, with a cosy feel to it. We had the 5 course tasting menu, and it was absolutely beautiful in every way, the food, the presentation and the service. I cannot fault the staff in any way, the service was absolutely perfect. I have been to many fine dining restaurants in my time, but few that can compare to this. It was great value for the quality of the food and service.I highly recommend this restaurant.

We just fancied a good night out somewhere we love, no other excuse was needed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the regular menu, and we have some favourites on it, but Gary and Louise always seem to come up with specials that are that wee bit, well, 'special'. There were four of us in the party and we all went for the specials. Our wives had the Seafood Mornay while us husbands had Devilled Kidneys and Tournedos Rossini. I couldn't enjoy my meal properly, my gub was aching after a visit to the dentist that morning, but the others had a great time. Hopefully next time we're back I won't have a sore bake. We finished with tea/coffee and desserts. Service and food were excellent as always. As the famous Arnold Schwarzthingy said in a film or two 'I'll be back'.Delighted that you chose #undergroundding for your night out. Thank you so much for your kind compliments. Look forward to seeing you again and hopefully not having had to visit the dentist beforehand.#ugdiningbangor#undergrounddining
