Arte y cultura milenaria. Todo al alcance del Hotel Huacalera.
The hotel is beautiful, with tasteful local decor, very friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. The surrounding landscape is unique!! The rooms are very comfortable and spectacular views onto the colorful cerros of the area.

The building where today stands Casa Grande Hotel dates from 1900 and belonged to Carlos Alvarado, first medical doctor of Argentina, "one of the greatest personalities in the history of Jujuy", according to the deceased multidoctor and historian Jobino Pedro Sierra and Iglesias. Through it passed the famous painter who portrayed the ports of Buenos Aires, Benito Quinquela Martin. Casa Grande has two central courtyards, one of them adorned with a fountain whose waterfall accompanies the notes of birds and the north wind, typical of the place. It maintains its style by being part of Tilcara, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. All rooms, decorated in northern style, have private bathrooms and central heating with hot water circulation. It also has a large breakfast room where you can feel the delicious aroma of freshly brewed coffee, croissants and freshly baked biscuits daily. Free Wifi. 24 hours reception.
Decided to travel to Jujuy and at the beginning booked the hotel in Jujuy itself but when trying to book tours (the whole purpose for me was to go Las Salinas) all the companies I contacted told me that they had private tours and minimum of two passengers. I was travelling by myself so not an option. Asked the forum and recommended me to stay in Purmamarca. Since it was close to my travelling dates I couldn't find a decent place for a decent amount, it was just one option available with so-so reviews and high prices. I continued my search and decided to stay in Tilcara (not too excited because reviews were not precisely encouraging). So I changed my plans and booked Casa Grande after comparing many hotels. It was a great outcome. Tilcara is a beautiful and lively small town, clean, good restaurants and a perfect base to explore the areas. Casa Grande is quite a gem, clean rooms, with what you need, Cable TV that works, heater, good breakfast (that orange juice seemed squeezed fresh!!), Nice and attentive staff that make you feel welcomed and give recommendations on where to to, restaurants and others, close to the Main square so easy reference (when I arrived into the town I asked where the main square was :) ). Yes, there are hotels that are closer to the main avenue. The only downside for Casa Grande is that it is only a block away from the main square but the street is not well lighted (it is lighted but not as compared to the main avenue is what I am saying). I would not hesitate to go back there. Tilcara is small and getting from the bus station to the hotel is quite easy, just get out of the station, ask for the direction to the main square and go straight, 6 blocks or so you will see the main square, one more block and turn right, at the end of the block you will find the hotel on your left, in a corner.

We were changed to this hotel due to a double reservation in our originally booked hotel. The hotel is located about 6 blocks from the main center and is quite new and modern. Rooms are large, clean and have lots of facilities. Staff is friendly, but only speaks Spanish. Our room (111) had large windows without blinders in front of them, that really sucked because sunlight comes out very early in the morning and caused us to wake up at 6AM in a shining bright room! Also breakfast was not what we expected. Not a lot to choose from and they did not refill anything untill specifically asked to do so.
