Of course we expected to pay a lot for meals in Iceland, the most expensive country to visit. Most entrees were easily twice what you'd pay at home. But we mostly accepted that, and had some very nice meals. The Mylla restaurant at Icelandair Hotel Myvatin was ridiculous. We had a lobster soup ($17), goose ($40) and tofu ($26). All the soups we had in Iceland were in generous portions. This soup came in two parts. In a small bowl was one yummy shrimp, several tiny scallops and 3-4 pearl mushrooms. Then they poured a broth atop it. So it was basically hint of lobster and essence of seafood. The tofu was fairy bland and obviously overpriced. The goose was delicious. But the portions were shocking, and insulting: 3-4 tiny pieces not much bigger than the popcorn they put on the plate for decoration. For $40?! This was the only meal over 10 days that was this stingy, leaving us with a very sour taste for Icelandair Hotel Myvatin, where we stayed for two nights.

Eldey Restaurant opened during the Summer of 2014 along with Hotel Laxá, since then our Chef has been creating a menu around Iceland and Myvatn region's uniqueness, putting an emphasis on regional ingredients and carefully selecting high quality products.
It was ok. Not stunning. Not amazing. But ok sustenance. The doughnut pastry was dry and chewy. The sandwiches were weak as far as content. Had some coffee and water. The people working were nice. And they had some nice art for sale. Bathrooms were clean. Have fun. Follow us @nickellfamilytravel

At Fosshotel Mývatn Restaurant, we offer Icelandic cuisine at its best. Fosshotel Mývatn's restaurant is truly one of North Iceland hidden gems offering spectacular views over lake Mývatn.
A pleasant meal of tomato soup followed by cod with new potatoes, cauliflower, mushrooms and peppers with puréed sweet potato. Both courses were lovely and the staff were as attentive as one would hope but not intrusive

The restaurant, Gamli Bistro, is only open during the summer and it will be opened again in April 2020
We came there as group of 12 and were âwelcomedâ by rude staff telling us that the kitchen was closed. Something they do not mention on the web. So be prepared for rude and bad service and perhaps a closed kitchen. A big disappointment.

Decided to eat here after seeing the menu displayed at the start of the marked trails as it seemed to offer something different. We all had the Icelandic smoked lamb sausages with sweet potatoes and salad and it was all very tasty and would recommend. The apple pie for desert was just as good too. Very friendly staff and great views of Lake Myvatn. Would recommend this restaurant.

This cool looking restaurant is part of the inn and backs up to the milking shed. There are windows for those who want to watch the cows. But, it's the food that is really worth a mention. It is well prepared, well presented. The service is good and discreet. It should not be missed if you are in the area.
