Things to do in Samothraki

We drove with our motorbikes to this place quite by accident and decided to have some food while enjoying the fantastic view over the sea. We had grilled goat meat, kokoretsi and Greek salad and everything tasted awesome. We drank local lemonade which was very good too. At the end the waitress treated us with some sweets on the house which were delicious, though we had no idea what that was. I assume it was some kind of orange cake garnished with terrific Greek orange jam and it was amazing.

This restaurant, specializing in seafood and fish - no wonder, since it belongs to a family of fishermen - is located on the southern side of Kamariotissa, outside the center. There is a big covered area for outdoor seating, overlooking the sea.The not overly friendly waitress came to my table and started rattling off very fast all they had available this evening, but she brought me a menu card, when I asked for it. They have a big choice of fish, all caught in the Thracian Sea. When I asked for a grilled fish, she recommended me 'Bakaliaros', caught today, which in this case meant a hake and not the popular salted cod from the northern Atlantic, also called 'Bakaliaros' (the 'Bacalao' of Portugal). It was not a big fish, but quite tasty and I liked it more than the Octopus on vinegar, which I had as a starter. With it I drank a bottle of 'Malamatina' (always 0.5l), the by now most popular Retsina wine of Greece, It is made in Thessaloniki, but the company had been founded by a Mr.Malamatinas from Alexandroupoli just across from here. The next time I was here I had a grilled Octopus as a main course, which I definitely prefered to the vinegary one. With the salad as a starter I was offered some of their dishes of the day to taste: a homemade tuna salad and 'Kritharaki me Soupia' (rice shaped pasta with Cuttlefish). Still into local specialities, also drink wise, I asked for an Ouzo Goidas from Alexandroupoli, which elsewhere in Greece is not so easily found, but which is also no match to the more famous Ouzo's from the island of Lesbos. When I asked for the bill, it came not with the details as usual, but just the total amount. Since it looked very reasonable, I didn't mind.

This central tavern has nice outdoor seating under an oriental plane tree and a grapevine trellis, in Greek called a 'Klimataria', just as the restaurant's name. Unlike the other taverns I had been to here, it took a pretty long time until anybody showed up at my table. Since the place has no menu card, one is told, what there is on offer. There was no need to explain anything to me, since I asked right away for a local goat, a well known speciality of Samothrake, and it was available. Later I heard the man, most probably the owner, to rattle off to some foreigners at the next table the whole menu pretty fast, with all the fish names in Greek only. The poor guests seemed rather lost and all they could stammer to that was: '..pork..potatoes.. salad..?' If the service had been slow at the start, in then was too fast for my taste afterwards. Usually I like to linger over a dinner, enjoying the atmosphere, but here all was over after 30 minutes. The Goat with Potatoes from the oven was good and tender though and I also liked the grilled 'Piperies Florinis', red peppers from the Macedonian town of Florina, which I had originally requested as a starter. With the meal I had a quarter of white housewine. As usual here it came from the island of Lemnos and for once one could taste the typical Muscat d'Alexandrie aroma of the grapes there. Most items were brought by an elderly sourfaced lady, who - without saying hello or looking at one - just plunked everything on the table.Positive though was the fact that it was the only tavern in Kamariotissa, which offered a complimentary dessert, in this case fresh fruit. I also enjoyed a beautiful sunset from here.
Mr. Dimitris is really kind and always invite us the third tsipouro with meze. The mezes (variety of foods) that comes with the tsipouro is delicious and the prices are unbelievable low. Everytime you order the mezes is different and with 2-3 of them you feel like you ate lunch!!!

It was a good experience. We ate on the sand, close to the water and it was very beautiful. The owners are very nice but they don't offer you a menu. The food there is great but is not that cheap.Overall it was a nice experience and definitely recommend the place, especially if you can get a place by the sea.

Fish Tavern Dolphins is beside the sea here you can enjoy the best fresh fish on the island samothraki.
Î propose this restaurant with no doubt, because you can taste the best lobster in the island, it has a clean kitchen, a pleasant environment and excellent service. There is also a varied menu with seafood and meat. It is located in the northwest part of the island which is called Paleopolis. You can combine this excellent choice of food with sightseeing, as the archaeological museum of the Samothraceâs island and the sanctuary of the great gods are next to the restaurant.

Once upon a time there was a bank in Chora Samothrace. There was traffic, growth and intrest. That era came to an end and there was silence and abandonment. We decided to revive the area by giving it a brand new look... hanging around in the , enjoying co

It's always a pleasure to be back here, in a green and friendly and "tasteful" place. All dishes are carefully prepared and delicious. Fish is always fresh and excellent prepared. Prices are not very low, but it worth every nickle. For taste, friendness, view and a lot of other things that you can only discover by coming here. We will surely do it, again and again, after so many years.

Ten years of visiting Samothraki and none of them without eating at least once at Vrachos... Why? Simple: the place is quiet and beautiful, people is very kind and friendly, food (especially roasted goat) is awesome. I warmly recommend this place, is a real piece of Samothraki.

Totally loved the place. The food is very tasty, made from local fresh ingredients. Everything is absolutely delicious from pasta to moussaka and lamb. Didn't really liked the fried zucchini, because they were full of salt and had mayo instead of tzatziki. Road to here is quite bumpy, but it's worth it.
