This is just the best restaurant in Lake Toba. We loved loved loved the food and the hostes. The curries are great and the woman who owns this place got us beers from the other side of the road. Just lovely alltogether

This place is palying extremely loud live music every night until 1am-2am (different all the time). We stayed quite far away from the bar (Tabo cottages) and it was still impossible to sleep because of low frequency noise they make.My wife had a headache so I calmly asked them to turn music down, which they refused (the only visitor was the bar owner, who wasn't very happy I'm not going to buy drinks).You should play acoustic, not this loud crap, guys. Noone comes to Toba for parties.Hello zkolex,Thank you for your review however since I am actually the owner with my husband (who is batak toba and born about a kilometer away from where our current business is now) i need to set the record straight. As per your statement above "(the only visitor was the bar owner, who wasnt very happy I'm not going to buy drinks)." How did you know the owner wasnt happy you were not going to buy drinks as the "owners" myself and my husband were in Australia at the time of your review as i had just given birth to our 2nd baby on the 29th of June so unless you telepathically zoomed your self to Australia and back to see us your statement is blantly lying. I stayed in Samosir for 2 weeks,been to this restaurant for more than 10 times.The foods are delicious not only results by cooking skills,but their passion of running this family restaurant.As for the complaint,i would like explain for the owner.In any Samosir's restaurant,It is really common for wait at least 30mins for the foods,sometimes i waited an hour also for two main course i ordered for me and my buddy,i would say it worth the wait,she cook everything just delicious and my german dude said they cook one of the best beef steak he ever had!!This really curious me,Jenny restaurant always busy while others restaurant is quiet.I go to Jenny's for meals as many as i went to Cotney's.What i trying to say is they both serving pretty much equal quality of the food,but the tourist seems don't react the same..

Some reviews list this as western food, but it is with a distinct Indonesian flare! I had a simple pasta dish with a marinara sauce. It was anything but a traditional marinara! It was amazing, Indonesian spices and flavors, with Indonesian sweet tea. we all had different dishes and all 3 of us were very happy with our meals.

Our restaurant is located near the public harbour. We cook indonesian and italian food for you. We also have some rooms to rent, if you want to enjoy a very quiet place and a beautiful garden

Stayed 12 nights -room 7 with a great view of the lake - the sunrise over the lake and mountains were stunning. Tika was a very warm & generous host, together with Adi,simply the best chef on Samosir who cooked local Batak,Indonesian and European food - not forgetting Tiks's daughter Feny who not only kept the place spotless but made the best coffee on the island. Overall, a fabulous experience staying at the Matahari and highly recommended!
