The restaurant is located in an old building in the centre of one of the villages that forms Bornheim. The bosses, a young couple, are nice and the dishes are yummy. I found a little bit expensive though. I had âRheinischer Sauerbratenâ which was very delicious. My friend had a steak which was delicious too.

We celebrated my mom's 70th birthday at this restaurant. It was wonderful and welcoming. We were treated like royalty! The buffet never ran out of food, and we were even able to take home the leftovers and have lunches and dinners for two more days! If in Rheidt, just stop at Alte Post and have a bite. You will never leave again! Good that they also have hotel service on hand ;-)
Where to eat German food in Bornheim: The Best Restaurants and Bars
I came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. The door under the "Restaurant" sign was locked (10 minutes to 7pm), so I killed some time walking around, assuming they opened at 7. A few minutes past 7 I returned but the door was still locked! I went down to the hotel door (a few meters away) to ask if the restaurant would be open for dinner and found that the hotel door leads right to the restaurant! I'm sure the surrounding sings probably explain this, but my rudimentary German is "nicht so gut"! So my first tip is to enter via what seems like the hotel entrance. Once inside, it is a very cozy establishment with seats at the bar or in a variety of open and secluded areas. The menu is very comprehensive and looked to have a good variety of meat and veggie dishes. I had the jagerschnitzel and it was excellent! It came with a large portion of pomme frites (French fries) and a fresh garden salad with a dill dressing. I also had a bottle of water and a heffeweisen beer -- all for under â¬16! I only wish I had room for dessert but the portions were very generous. The town is pretty quiet but the restaurant had steady business. There is also a grocery store across the street for other items you may need. It is within walking distance from the Domane Walberberg hotel (about a 12 minute walk).
