Things to do in Gisborne
Restaurant, Bar & Function Room. We are providing Malaysian Chinese and Western style food. Buffets on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday's nights from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm for only $25.
Inedible eggs Benedict. Returned to chef.Rubbery rice full of solid 'bits'. Fish and chips only just acceptable. Little in the way of a side salad. Our group will not be going back. That is a shame as there is a lovely garden where we could have enjoyed the sunshine.Service was almost non-existent. We had to request serviettes, additional menus, wine list.
Where to eat Thai food in Gisborne: The Best Restaurants and Bars
It is both a sit down restaurant and a takeout buffet style. Food is adequate, but not overly pleasant. Usual stock-standard options - rice, noodles, sweet and sour pork, beef and black bean sauce etc. In my meal there were some odd random bits of product that were sort of sharp - could have been uncooked broccoli I guess, as it was green when I removed it from my mouth. Interesting flavoured sweet and sour pork - not 100% sure it WAS pork to be honest, but the sauce was nice! The worst thing was the filthy rag the waitress was using to wipe down the benches in front of the food. It was disgustingly dirty and stunk to hell - absolutely foul. I said that the cloth could do with a bit of bleach, and she sort of said "uh-huh" and carried on wiping. Sorry - SMEARING might be a more appropriate description. OK - I should have said I didn't want it and wanted my money back, but didn't. Let's see how the tummy holds up.... Will never, ever eat there again, and have made a complaint to the council. STAY AWAY until they've sorted it out!
Not the best street in town for foot traffic unless you are running one of the three seedy bars in Peel Street. I kept trying to order the vegetable steam buns for a while that were on the menu but they told me I had to order them the day before.Huh? Eventually they had them in stock and I bought them for a month or three but it doesn't surprise me they closed for business. Mostly the location sucks for parking and foot traffic, and seedy bars nearby.
I loved their fish and chips in this particular take away shop along Wainui Rd in Gisborne. The owner Chinese guy and his staff are very friendly. I highly recommend it to my friends.
I eagerly anticipated the opening when I saw a rather exciting-sounding option for vegetarians on the menu. Opening time arrived and twice I called in to hear that the vege options weren't on offer. Lucky there are plenty of meat eaters in Gisborne to keep them open. A message to the chef - don't offer menu options if you can't provide them.

We went with a chinese friend who knew the patron um boss-number-one So the meal was well balanced and tasty. No frills but clean and well priced. Lots of locals with children including Gizzy footwear of choice aka Gumboots. Def unpretentious - but best Cantonese cuisine chop suey in NZ. Def. helps to have some knowledge of the dishes tho...
