We were visiting on a Monday so it wasn't too busy. Despite having a booking our table wasn't set up for the 5 of us, none the less the staff were very accommodating. They were a bit over the top if I were honest, trying a bit too much. Food was really good though so would definitely come back

Had lunch here on queens birthday . Had the pizza and pork belly burger. The survive was good and friendly and prices seemed reasonable but then the food came out the pizza was extremely soggy , I couldn’t actually pick up a piece without all the topping falling of and its was so greasy I couldn’t actually finish it and that’s very rare for me and the bun the burger was on felt pretty stale , flavours were good but the bun majorly let it down Hi,We are very sorry to hear that the food wasn't up to our normal high standards. Please accept our apologies. We take all feedback seriously and will pass yours onto the kitchen staff.Kind regardsThe Good Home Team

Fabulous just fabulous from the food to the service. I’ve not been here since the new owners took over however I can happily report that standards have remained high, in fact I would say they have reached new glorious heights. With the spectacular sea views to the magnificent service, smiles all round. I applaud the staff they are so happy and truly appreciative of serving. You are made to feel at hone as soon as you walk through the door until you leave. The food is gorgeous just gorgeous. I had a cake good portion and exceeding flavoursome. They say you eat with your eyes and nose, all I can say is thank goodness you don’t put weight on in the same way, because you wouldn’t stand a chance. I highly, highly recommend a visit.

Joep, the chef and owner served us a delicious spread of Indonesian food for our family group of 7 whilst we gazed out on the last of the setting sun on Mt Taranaki. The views of ‘our’ majestic mountain are stunning from every table in this barn-like structure. Decorated with numerous artefacts of a bygone era, including old wood or coal-fired stoves to logging hand-saws and a wooden butter churn, the interior of this restaurant has much of interest. This family who run the restaurant are warm and welcoming, engaging with you from the moment you step in the door. With very reasonable pricing, excellent wines (including Arrogant Frog) and truly delicious food with homely hospitality, all in our party vowed to return to this unpretentious venue. It is off the beaten track and bookings are essential for the evenings, but well worth the drive. For the record, we spent 2 hours over our meal. We had a starter of chicken broth, clear and tasty with slivers of spring onions. The mains comprised of numerous dishes to share -vegetarian, 2 beef (Rendang & another spicy beef dish), seafood, chicken and pork with numerous sides. There were bowls of white and fried rice, whilst the sides included fried banana, fruit relish, peanut and coconut topping, tomato relish and numerous others (probably around 10). It was rounded off with a pancake served with coconut, ice cream and cream.Joep intentionally serves all dishes to cater for the mild Kiwi palate but you can add your own level of heat from the sambal supplied. It also means you get to savour the unique flavours of each dish (the pork done with ginger was our group favourite). The others enjoyed their coffees but I finished with my personal favourite, a hot chocolate with a touch of rum. Yum!

We were keen to drop in for a quick pizza and beer. While the pizzas were fine, the service was terrible. No one greeted us on arrival so we weren't sure whether we just sit at an empty table or wait to be seated. I counted 5 people behind the bar of which 1 person was actually doing something. It wouldn't of taken much for someone to greet us. After no one assisted we decided to just sit down. No one came to the table so I then had to ask for menus. Then after getting menus I once again had to go to the bar and ask yet again for someone to take our order. Still there were lots of people milling around behind the bar while one person was seeing to all the tables. It wasn't even that busy!. Needless to say the drinks and food also took an eternity to arrive. When I asked the waitress if a certain beer was a dark beer, she said yes. Guess what.... it wasn't when it arrived at the table. So if you are after a quick pizza don't bother going here. The pizza was not bad though. Probably the worst service I have experienced in a long time, especially when it wasn't even that busy. I really don't like writing a bad review and this is probably only the second time I have done it. Both times due to poor service.Thank you for the review, we appreciate them all good or bad. We've taken this back to the team and had a good discussion about it. Obviously, we let you down and our service was well below our usually high standard. There are no excuses and we are sincerely sorry that you chose our establishment to dine at and didn't receive the service that you rightly deserved. It was nice to hear you enjoyed the pizza's, and I can promise you that if you ever return the service will be excellent.RegardsEmma
