Located in the Bay of Plenty, Johney's Dumpling House is a purveyor of fine dumpling artistry and leaders of the revolutionary street food culture. Every single delicious dumpling is handcrafted to perfection with the flavours of 3 generations behind us.
There are normally a few different dumplings available - siu mai in three or four flavours and some regular dumplings that can be steamed or fried. They're perfectly reasonably priced and generally perfectly OK if nothing particularly special. Occasionally odd "fusion" flavours turn up (chicken and cranberry and others) but they are possibly not as good as they are interesting. If this sounds unenthusiastic I should mention that I do eat and enjoy their food quite often but after much time in the East I'm a bit picky with dumplings.

We have created a modern south east Asian cuisine with a Pacific twist accompanied by friendly and professional service. Our menu has been inspired by the Asian culture of sharing great food and telling great stories, so start with a few, then add some mo
I left there still hungry I got the pork belly and got three small squares about 60 mm sq crackling that just about broke my teeth the entrée was ok .Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy aspects of your shared meal and I have discussed with the chef your feedback regarding the pork. At Umami, we pride ourselves on the quality of our food and service and customer satisfaction is of utmost importance to us. Our menu is based on the Southeast Asian culture of shared plates and family style dining. As such, we do not have specific entrees or mains, but instead customers enjoy choosing from an array of dishes to complement each other. I am disappointed that we did not deliver this experience. As we are about to introduce a new menu, I hope I can tempt you to give us another chance and look forward to seeing you back at Umami.Kind RegardsPaige [email protected]

Came here as recommended by the brother in law and definitely impressed. Love me some chilli and beer and this place does not disappoint!A nice ambience with beer brewing in the rear, indoor and outdoor seating and what looks to be a separate private area for functions. I had the pork buns and curly fries with my mermaids mirth beer (quite sensational) and could have had 2 or 3 more helpings of different things. Only thing I would say is it doesnât appear they have many staff to service the very busy times, so expect a bit of a wait in line when ordering (no table service).I will be back!
