Discover Restaurants offering the best Mexican food in Papamoa, North Island, New Zealand. Papamoa Beach is a suburb of Tauranga, located about 11 kilometres from the city centre. It is the largest residential suburb in Tauranga, having a population of 20,091 at the 2013 census. It is bordered to the west by Mount Maunganui (east of Sunrise Avenue and Hibiscus Avenue), the east by the Kaituna River (separating it from the Western Bay of Plenty District) and to the south by State Highway 2. Papamoa Beach has 16km of white sandy beach stretching from the boundary with Mount Maunganui in the west to the Kaituna River in the east. Widespread settlement of the area did not start until the early 1980s and prior to this Papamoa Beach had been largely a rural area. Once a small and tight knit community, many of Papamoa Beach's sweeping paddocks have been swallowed up by urban development. Papamoa Beach is currently one of the fastest growing suburbs of Tauranga, with many different subdivisions developing concurrently on different blocks of land on the fringes of the suburb.

It wasn’t a busy time so the restaurant wasn’t crowded but it was still noisy. The waitress couldn’t understand my husband at all and she must have misheard the drink order though that was quickly rectified. All three of us were native English speakers so it was not a language problem. However, having got over that hurdle the food and drink were excellent. Both had the enchilada, the mole sauce was great as were the table sauces. Would have liked a dessert but were too full.Hi Janet! Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your food and beverage!Being a smaller refined Restaurant unfortunately at times it can seem a bit noisy as voices can bounce across the room. We hope to see you again soon. The Barrio Team

Went on a Friday night with another couple. On the specials board was guacamole for 14.00. What a RIP off, very small bowl with maybe one avocado and a taste of salsa, and a few tasteless corn chips. Very disappointed. Also had fried chicken which was very overpriced for the size. I was looking forward to nachos or enchiladas etc.none if that on menu. Overall none of our group would go back. Very overpriced.
