Reviews on New Zealand food in Paihia, North Island, New Zealand. If you long to explore New Zealand’s beautiful Bay of Islands, Paihia makes a wonderful base. Known as “the Jewel of the Bay Islands,” this seaside town has golden beaches, lovely coastal walking trails and waterfalls, and a colorful population of local birds. Paihia also holds an important role in the country’s history. It was here, after a century of conflict between indigenous Maori tribes and Western settlers, that peace was finally made and the groundbreaking Treaty of Waitangi was signed.

One the down side at breakfast i found the bacon undercooked and if you didn't want scrambled eggs then there were no options but it was tasty and there were plenty of fruits and cereals to chose from. Now for dinner...AMAZING!! lemon prawn skewers were a great start and then the pork belly on a asparagus and rosemary risotto. OMG it was so yummy and a huge portion.
Super tasty, 150 grams of award winning Bratwurst , German inspired, made here in NZ sausage, served with onions, sauerkraut and your choice from 8 different condiments. No waiting and excellent value. Ideal for late breakfast or lunch to keep you going w

Looking at the menu caused more confusion than guidance. This is a restaurant/bar for the adventurous with most of the items being originals from a family of experienced and widely traveled chiefs. Bits from here , bits from there blended together over years of practical experience. There were 4 of us so we all had something different and swapped about. It was all good with all manor of ingredients that none of us had dreamed of combined before. The service was excellent and in response to our many questions the the chief came out and explained the origins of the dishes we were eating.Next time we are in the Bay we will eat there again.

Our autumn list makes use of legumes, pulses, light broths and warming sauces as we head into the cooler months. We believe in fresh, free range happy produce with punchy flavour profiles offered in a low key sharing style format.
Dissatisfied with my recent trip to the Glass House, the food was average, in some cases over flavoured and under seasoned. For the price we paid I donât believe it was anywhere of the value, it wasnât exactly filling either. Ended up heading home feeling like I had a amuse-bouche and a entree. My peanut butter on toast at home was more satisfying. To be fair, there is a wide variety in menu with GF, DF, V options,Wonât be returning any time soon or in a hurry.

A good fun trip full of surprises - one of which was having to stand up and tell the assembled company about yourself - albeit wearing a funny hat and glasses as props ! One fellow traveller said he was Donald Trump and he was going to make this place really really really great - and he would make New Zealand great as well. A sail around the Bay with a stop at Russell while the crew prepared lunch - which was fine - wine also available on board. All good fun.

These guys smash takeaways. Heaps of delicious things that I can't eat, but that's no drama for them. Regularly they throw me together a homemade burger patty made from nothing but wholefoods, wrapped in lettuce with some delicous relish and salads. The best tasting salad burger takeout you'll find North of Auckland. And the plain old fries are what you remember from being a kid, crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle. BOMB. We're lucky to have them in the Falls!

My husband and I went here for dinner as it was right next door to where we were staying. The food was really nice although the service was a little sub par. They weren't busy but the service was quite slow. We would eat there again as the food was nice.

Legends Restaurant at the Paihia Ex-Services Club has gone under new management on 8 April 2019. Our new menu is now up and running including all of the old favourites, new vegetarian meals as well as a great burger menu! We are open daily from 5pm and cl
We decided to eat here as we were attending a hypnotists show, the food is definitely better than our last visit but they ran out of vegetables and the salad bar was very uninspiring, 2 lots a lettuce and a potato salad, not very good , used to have beetroot, egg salad and pasta as well, the veggies were good when replenished but they need to keep them stocked up and hot , the owner is obviously making a huge effort and we will give it another go but on a less busy nightThank you for your feedback, it's reviews like this that allow us to improve. You're right that we're making a huge effort, we have changed the structure of the kitchen and recently updated the menu a little - but don't worry, all of the favourites are still available! On that night it was quite busy and you're right, we did run low particularly with the hot veggie bar - multiple times. We have looked at the issue with replenishing items and have changed the person responsible for keeping the kitchen up to date as to what is needed, so far it is working out well. In regards to the variety of the salad bar we're making efforts to bring different things back such as beetroot and increase the sauce/dressing options - currently we have a balsamic vinaigrette and wholegrain mustard dressing made in house along with our regular sauces, we're also making more prepared salads like egg & potato, pasta and coleslaw. Items do change daily depending on availability so it is possible on a busy weekend we may run out of a popular item but we're doing our best to have a little extra on-hand - particularly items that can last a little longer in the fridge or dry store. I'm sure next time you visit these issues will be a thing of the past. Thank you again for your helpful feedback, it has helped us make Legends Restaurant a better dining option and I look forward to seeing you next time.
