Cafe closed for August 2018 - We are closed now for our winter break - reopening on Fri 31 August :) Nothing is more tantalising than the heady smell of baked goods. The Falls Cafe know this seductive scent well, as they are a haven of home-made cakes, br
We've been coming here regularly for years and the food and coffee have been consistently excellent. The ingredients are always good quality and fresh and the baking is amazing. It's a family run business in a breathtaking setting. The staff are always welcoming and good fun, the place is relaxing and family friendly and it's just a lovely place to brunch on a lazy Sunday morning.

Perfectly placed on the sea front below Mt Maunganui this cafe has the makings of a winner. Good coffee and a hearty big breakfast option. Good cafe-standard fare.

Very unprofessional and rude in a nut shell! I ordered a coffee with coconut milk easy order. They came with a soy-mix,, said sorry but no thanks,,, order came back eventually correct. Went to pay and got given grief by the barista saying you should be paying for an extra coffee ... not funny haha but actually serious. Well hipsta boy if you do not like hospitality move on to kiwifruit or something.Unfortunately staff can ruin a business.Very disappointed to hear you felt the team were not professional enough. There is a misunderstanding with the Alpro Coconut milk - it is not a blend we make, but Alpro include 2.9 % of Soy in the Coconut milk, so in the interests of preventing issues for people with allergies we normally make this clear to people ordering coconut - it seems this time we initially missed it. We know that a genuine apology was given to you at the time. On coming to settle the account an error was found on the account and this was in fact the matter referred to by the Barista, trying to assist the cashier with the account - it was not a comment that "two coffees should be paid for". We accept and appreciate all feedback but even if an error was made we do not appreciate veiled insults about the dress or nationality of our staff - they all work hard, and take their job and hospitality seriously. If you have an issue being served by foreign staff then you are in the wrong location - there are many awesome overseas people working in hospitality in the Mount, and a large percentage are proudly employed by Tay Street Beach Cafe.

I ordered the 'Fish' (at $26 well above average cafe prices even at the Mount). It was delicious. The white fish (species not identified) was cooked almost perfectly still juicy but cooked with tasty caramelisation on the outside. It sat on a sea of kumara (sweet potato) mash, which provided and earthy sweetness - one that I at first questioned when paired with delicate white fish, however, the miso shitake mushrooms cut through the mash adding their own notes of salt and savoury. I think the sesame brittle not only added to the beauty of the presentation but helpoed tie the mash (sweet and earthy) with the mushrooms (Asian and slightly sweet and savoury). Perhaps because it really was perfectly cooked (I resisted using the word perfect because surely anything could be a little better, but my only complaint about the fish would be that as I ate the residual heat gradually tipped it from perfect to ever so slightly overcooked, but still tender juicy and delicious) somehow the delicate fish held its own as centerpiece against the vigorous competition. Barbara also remarked how beautiful the plate looked. Her chowder was good. Her only complaint that she prefers some chunks of potato to a truely smoothe chowder but then she grew up in Ireland ;)Thanks for sharing! We always appreciate honest feedback and specially such detailed ones. I can only apologise for our waitress not having told the fish of the day, which was Hapuka. I will make sure our Chef Chris sees your wonderful compliments on his food. Hope to see you again soon.

Wandered in this place by accident but was so glad we did. We were only in the area for a few days but we returned twice it was so good. Quality coffee, top rate service and delicious food. The prawn salad was excellent but the wholemeal coffee and caramel slice was exceptional. Thanks for your lovely review, we are glad that accident brought you to our Cafe and you could enjoy our quality coffee made by expert baristas and our cabinet and kitchen food made with passion and the best ingredientes. We'll see you again :)
