As a group of 6 travelling from Rotorua to Whangarei on motorbikes we were looking forward to a decent meal. we were not told when we walked in that there was a wait of over 1.5 hours, we sat & had drinks & after asking how long till our meals would be up, we were told they hadn't even started cooking them. in the mean time the guys working the bar & taking food out to customers were eating peoples food, we all saw 1 in particular take chips out of the bowl & dip it into the sauce & eat it before taking it to the customers waiting. we got our money back & went to the roast house which was amazing! Not a good look at all, no recommendation :-(

I enjoyed a delicious steak meal, cooked perfectly. Would recommend as a great place for families to enjoy a nice meal in a relaxed atmosphere. A good selection of meals at a reasonable price, and friendly helpful staff.

We found this pub after walking around town looking for a restaurant that was open on a Monday Night. the staff were friendly and the menu was extensive. Our meals were tasty and plentiful. The fish was cooked to perfection and my husbands steak was also cooked to his liking. Its great pub fare and a typical pub.

Today we had a dinner at Wildside bar and grill. The service was friendly and we get our meal in 15 minutes! The burger was huge and very tasty, and the mix grill was also super! It's a good value for money!!

A right nice lunch stop. A warm welcome on arrival, good choice of lunch dishes from the traditional to more adventurous, excellent food and well presented. Toilets immaculate. Thoroughly recommended. Background music a tad loud but not enough to knock a star off for! So five stars, it is!

The Butter Factory is a welcoming place for people of all ages and walks of life that enjoy good hospitality in a heritage building that oozes ambiance, and a hugely popular sunny courtyard to boot! We have a menu available from the minute we open till cl
Went here a couple of times in January. The place is good... The staff leave a bit to be desired.Seems they are only friendly to "friends" of theirs. Couple of times we have smiled at the waitresses only to be ignored... Quite odd behaviour. In September we went on a Friday night around 7.15 pm to be told that there was a live band at 8 and we needed to pay for it..We simply wanted a beer and some snacks... Quite possibly would have been gone at 8.15.But no.... So we all left... Bit disappointing overall. Kia ora TambonzRobertsonThank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you had a disappointing experience on Friday. We provide one of the only Whangarei venues that host original NZ music and we do usually keep Friday nights for free live music. The band playing on this particular night (Summer Thieves) are one of NZ's big name popular reggae bands and that was the only date they could fit Whangarei in to their tour, so we made an exception. I hope you can appreciate the juggle between providing quality live music gigs for our community and satisfying the hospitality needs of our patrons. We did advertise that there would be a door charge and I'm very sorry you did not see it beforehand. Please check our events on our facebook page or website next time to ensure you do not get caught out again (although as mentioned, Friday nights are usually free entry). I hope you found another spot to enjoy your drinks & snacks. In response to your comment about your experience in January, sorry to hear it left a bit to be desired. The Butter Factory is now under new ownership (since late February this year) and staff training & development has been a big focus since the changeover. Hopefully next time you come in you will see a difference and have a more pleasant experience.

I've been to The Quay on several occasions and thought it had stepped up to be the best restaurant in town. However, we went a group of 8 people last week and this time they did not deliver. Their waiting staff have always been a bit hit & miss, some are very good and others are awkward at best. But in general the food has been excellent. This time two of us ordered the fish of the day, which apparently was hapuku. Well, we all know why we like hapuku - with large, flaky and succulent fillets. As a previous reviewer noted, it was rubbery and so average it should never find its way to a plate in a nice restaurant. I suspected that it was in fact monkfish they were serving. It certainly did not resemble hapuku in any way - and if it was, then the chef had done an incredible job of murdering it. I also tasted one of the dishes ordered by the person next to me; some cauliflower hummus salad with pomegranate seeds scattered over it, but it was extremely vinegary and very disappointing. Those who ordered pizza or pork belly were happy with their meals. I didn't try any of the deserts but one person ordered a coffee which never came. So it was a very average experience this time but I'm sure we'll give The Quay another go again, considering past visits have been so much better.

We lunched here one year ago and enjoyed it so much we returned. We heard there had been a change of ownership but the food was still excellent and I mean excellent. Great portion size, robust flavours and delicious. Judging by the numbers of patrons this is a very poular meeting place.I chose the lamb shank but the other favourite choice was the beef and ale pie. Highly recommend.

My friends and I had a splendid time enjoying our evening at SPLIT. A lovely, not over-crowed atmosphere with attentive service. My sea food chowder and Steak dish were delicious, with the steak being made exactly to my likening [including exchanging the steamed veges for a side mixed salad]. I also indulged in a yummy creme brulee for desert and had a great TOBLERONE cocktail as an aperitive. My friends both also found there pork bellies most delicious, as well as their Irish coffees and creme brulee. Though one of my friends commented that her cocktail had too much ice, i.e. it was very watery ... i ordered mine without ice. Otherwise - an excellent experience.
