Amazing sushi and cooked lunches, better than a lot of sushi places I have visited NZ. Hygienic (food is very well covered) and a lovely atmosphere. Lots of variation and the food is always fresh and consistent. Great vegetarian options too. Fast service and beautifully presented lunches. Some meals authentically cooked on hot stones. Wifi is free and the cafe itself is clean, beautifully presented and comfortable.

Having visited Whangarei during our NZ trip, we had our dinner at Sun Wah Chinese restaurant on 29/3/2018. Below are both the good points and the bad points.GOOD POINTS:1. Friendly staff and the owner. Mr. Hung, who is the owner, welcomed us and recommended us some special vegetarian dishes to my hubby (as he has been a vegetarian for nearly 30 years). Staff are all very friendly and can speak very fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.2. Tasty food. My hubby loves the fungus and vegetarian spring rolls as his appetisers. He also loves the NZ-styled fried noodles with vegetables. My seaweed and tofu soup is also very tasty. 3. Convenient location. The restaurant is centrally located at Bank Street. We just parked our car near the restaurant.BAD POINTS:1. It can be quite noisy as there are a number of customers sitting very close to you.ADVICE: It worths a try.

Had a scrumptious meal here tonight with friends. Our first visit here but definitely not our last. We could not fault the service, the food or the restaurant in any way. The hostess was very friendly and efficient, the food was absolutely mouthwatering and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our dinner experience. The meals were very large, in fact my husband had to ask for a container to take the balance of his herbed fish home ! Would definitely recommend and will be going there again sometime soon

The menu comes with a number of good-value choices and you won't be disappointed if you want authentic Japanese food. Not a world-class restaurant but tasty enough to give a thumb up. The friendly service is not simply to the customer, but to the earth. You will not find straw or plastic bag because it is an earth-friendly one. Hurrah.

A Mongolian style BBQ buffet restaurant. Try different combinations of meats, sauces and other fresh ingredients! Pancakes and ice-cream for desert.
This restaurant can be a lot of fun. You create your own meal for the chefs to BBQ. Great selection of raw meats, seafood, fresh vegetables, sauces and seasonings to assemble the way you prefer them to be prepared The "all you can eat" concept requires a number of trips to the selection buffet and the staff encourage you to do so. The whole evening is a very social experience with friendly, helpful staff and a substantial bar service at reasonable prices to back it up.People with imaginative ideas for meal creation will love it, but be careful with the chilli....

Without a doubt the best Thai restaurant in Whangarei. The food is always delicious and fresh; the service always amazing. They make you feel welcome, like one of the family and the prices are reasonable too. Iâve been dining here for years -my pick is always Lion Milk, a mild yellow chicken curry with bananas and coconut milk. Simply the best Iâve ever had - anywhere.

Staying just round the corner, the hotel guy suggested that Mean's Vietnamese Cafe was a good option if we wanted something slightly different at a sensible price. What a great suggestion, because this place was excellent on all accounts i.e. food; service; and value. From the outside it does look like a cafe rather than a restaurant, but it is serving some fantastic food - we all really enjoyed it. BTW it isn't big, so you might want to think about making a reservation.

Asian fusion restaurant in the Whangarei Town Basin
We booked for lunch (Friday) for five. One of our group was on a limited lunch break, and one was gluten intolerant, we found the express lunch menu was brilliant. The food was bursting with flavour, quick to arrive, excellent service to the table (we were looked after well). The wine list was in another realm again, most impressive.

We hadnât been here for at least a year, even two: travel away from Whangarei had caused this. Pimarn Thai has been a super cheap good value place to eat in the past. Our visit tonight was a revelation - the prices on the entrees had lifted by about 30% and the mains by about 50%.However for all that the service and standard of food is as good as ever, and given it was a Wednesday night, the clientele has not diminished. Itâs still an excellent value for money restaurant offering delicious food. We will be back although may pause to review our budget allowance before venturing through the doors.
