I came across this cafe while waiting for my train and I'm glad I did. It's beside Alkmaar's main train station. They have great burgers and fast wifi. The owner was pretty nice too (helped me out cuz I didnt know where to change trains and all that)...oh, and did I mention that their burger is a winner?

Although the atmosphere inside and on the terrace is nice - lovely, tasteful decoration and nice things to buy - when I came here for a cuppa and something sweet recently, the price of the seasonal cake (4,50EUR) was ridiculously high for the extremely thin slice we got.. I've never had such a thin slice. I complained about this twice during our visit, but we were not offered any kind of solution: not another slice, nor a discount. The only arguments were that the cakes were "homemade" (but it really wasn't that good, I've had better, and more, for less money) and "this is what the boss wants". Outrageous. Also: service was rather slow, and during a previous visit, also not very friendly. Absolutely do not recommend at this point. Shame, as Alkmaar could really use a couple more of these places. Go to ECHT Alkmaar instead.

This is a typical nightmare of screwed dutch thinking. In all respect to disabled people, but using them as cheap service people and even building a franchise concept out of this is a BIG NO GO. I don't want to discriminate disabled people, but offending guests with the disabled theme or offending disbaled people with huge misperceptions is a big no go. I simply ordered a typical dutch "uitsmijter" for my breakfast, it took ages before one of the non-disabled service people came along to excuse but the typical dutch "uitsmijter' is not part of the menue card. In place of that they are offering typical dutch and highly overpriced marketing food with beautiful names. The interrieur design is nice, but the tables are really small, they mostly offer very cheap budget chairs. There is not a piece of love in thic concept, it's a big thievery and unrespectful business making on the back of disabled people.
