This is a hidden gem! The restaurant is housed in the fascinating and spectacular 100 year old country estate hotel Duin en Kruidberg and is located in Santpoort, about 6 kilometers north of Haarlem. So you do have to travel to get there, but it is worth it. As mentioned on its website, De Vrienden van Jacob have had 1 Michelin star since 2006, and this star is more than deserved. The head chef, Alain Alders, visits each and every guest at the start of their dinner to personalize their experience. We elected a 5 course surprise menu with wine selections. It was absolutely superb, refined, delicious....The wine selections were great and for North Americans different from what they get served in the USA or Canada. Also, the price-tag for a 5 course dinner was favorable (around 90 Euros), certainly compared to what people pay in North America. In short, a restaurant that definitely is worthwhile visiting and you can decide to sleep at the hotel to get that little extra heavenly experience. By the way, reservations are required, but if you are unable to make a reservation online, it is worth calling the restaurant directly. We got a last minute reservation onsite!Dear C-Z-1982,We are happy to read that your stay has been satisfactory. We would also like to thank you for the time you have taken to leave a comment. We are look forward to welcome you again at restaurant De Vrienden van Jacob or for a overnight stay at the Country Estate! With best regards,Amber Timmers - Marketing Coordinator

No direct critique on my last visit to Jasmin Garden, but more in general. Has the quality of Chinese/Indonesian food gone down significantly over the last decade or so? It's been a while since I've ordered an "Indonesian/Chinese rijsttafel". In this particular instance one for 4 people. I felt bad for my relatives who payed for it. It was like walking down a supermarket aisle. Price the same, but less in the package or, in our case less dishes on the table. As to Jasmin Garden, food quality was good (+), taste (+/-), plate options (-)Overall "average", no matter the ambiance or the (sometimes too cozy informal) attitude of the staff.

This is definitely the place to be if you like fine dining, fish and a homey atmosphere. We had the 7 course menu combined with a nice bottle of Patrick Piuze Chablis. You sensed that each course was made with a lot of love and passion. We will come back for sure!

We came here with friends looking for a restaurant with a good price and that wasnt your typical Dutch hamburger/spareribs/salmon fron the oven type of place. Portions were perfect, I had beautiful fish and nicely made up plates. Service is informal and friendly. Prices were very reasonable for what was served and the quality of the food. The website unfortunately doesn't show what a nice restaurant it is and that it also has a lovely garden with ample outside seating. Go there and have a look and taste for yourselves. You wont be disappointed!

Enjoyed a superb fish meal at this excellent restaurant that has superb 180 degree views of the harbour & sea area. Outstanding cod and terrific service team. Really great and attentive service would definitely recommend. The views make it a wonderful place for dinner and it is obviously very popular as it was very busy on a Tuesday evening.Dear Ichdien,Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.I am very pleased to read that your visit has been satisfactory. That the fish tasted excellent, the service was attentive and that you could enjoy the view. We look forward to seeing you again. With warm regards,Charon van der SmissenTeam Kop van de Haven
