Family recipes make Mambo Grill & Tapas about as authentic as you can get. From pork, beef, chicken or seafood there is something to delight everyone's taste buds. Starting off in a small shopping center as a small buffet style restaurant, Mambo has grown
They're slipping a little. Well...lately quite a bit from what they used to be. The food is still fairly tasty, although it's slipped a little too, but the service is soooo slow. We came here for a fairly early dinner, the place wasn't real busy but it still took a super long time to get the food. They were out of several of the sides that should have been offered as options. The biggest complaint I had though was the 'short' beer pours from the bar. There's not much that bugs more more than getting a twelve ounce, sneaky short pour in a pint glass. I actually called them out on it on the waiter said, 'yeah, that tap just kicked'. Fine, but either don't bring it to me and give me another option or go ahead and bring be the short pour like you did but certainly don't charge me for a full pint, especially after getting called out for it.

Nice Restaurant/Bakery
Just to be clear, this is a very authentic Hispanic food restaurant, and very typical of what we expected. We are accustomed to eating in simple establishments with delicious food from the time we spent living in Tampa, FL and traveling in Central and South America, and now are so happy we found one in Salisbury! The decor and setting are low-key and very average, but the highlight is the food. Since it was our first trip, we tried a few smaller items and loved them all. We started with Queso Papusas, which are basically fried corn meal with cheese in the center, served with slaw and hot sauce. They were $1.85 each and delicious. We ate them so fast I didn't get a picture. Then we ordered Carne Asada (steak) tacos ($5) which include seasoned steak, onions and cilantro served on fresh corn tortillas, also delicious. Lastly, I ordered (technically an appetizer) fried plantains (sweet Hispanic bananas) that were served with sour cream and refried beans for $4.50 and was a huge portion. We loved everything, but were very jealous when we saw the huge bowls of soup being served to other patrons. We will definitely be ordering that the next time we go.They only accept cash for payment, and only serve juices and sodas for beverages, which we hope will change in the future. It looks like a lot of folks also order their food for takeout, can't blame them. We also received really good service.
Best Barbecue food near Salisbury, North Carolina, United States
First off, friendly people, not afraid to chat it up with customers, the bartender actually carries on a conversation with diners at the bar. And 2nd the food is AMAZING. This is 5 star cultural "REAL" Mexican dining. It's in a quaint historical neighborhood in an older brick building in Salisbury, NC. (where Mombo Grill and the bakery used to be....the bakery is still open next door) Mexican food in Salisbury has always been soggy tortillas stuffed, topped or next to a small amount of hamburger with plastic cheese. (after 15 minutes of chips and tomato sauce) The Hoppy Taco is chef inspired, made by really good cooks or chefs. I had the special, a poblamo pepper, lightly breaded (for lack of another term) stuffed with vegetables, nuts (not sure what else but a great stuffing) and topped with a cream sauce. My husband had tostadas with chorizo and rice and beans on the side. They have a "street food" section on the menu if your'e craving street tacos but their entrees are gourmet. I'ts fresh, refreshing and decadent. The desert we had was chocolate cake with flan on top, baked in the cake, and easy to share. The dining room was occupied by locals and Hispanics who let us know the food was authentic. They'll even make a pitcher of Mexican milk for you, although it's not on the menu. I hope this place is successful, it's different, worthy of date night (they serve beer...maybe wine?) I'ts decor is very simple. It's a stretch to think those used to El Patron or the other "same old, same old" Salisbury MX restaurants will appreciate this place, they have had people ask if they really were a Mexican restaurant (because it's NOT like the others, including Go Burrito). Have been to MeX many times and this is what one would find in a small fishing village or Mexico City or an all inclusive resort. It's just very, very, good and hopefully the locals will appreciate this unique restaurant so it can hang around for a long long time.
