Small excellent contemporary french bistro located in a small unprepossessing strip mall on MLK Blvd in Chapel hill. No reservations so avoid peak hours on weekends if you don't like to wait ( and no good place to wait). Reviews on trip advisor generally excellent with which I agree - 4 1/2 stars from me ( I almost never five 5) . Menu choices are small as well as the size of the room but all are very well done. Mussels with french fries very popular (personally never liked them but my wife does and vouches for them). Other choices include salmon, chicken, steak, scallops. Outstanding apple dish for desert. Overall one of the best options in chapel hill (among the top 3 or 4 - no. 10 on the trip advisor list is ridiculous)

We have been fans of this restaurant for 4 or 5 years, using it as a regular brunch local, and taking friends for dinner and having wonderful meals frequently. We have attended wine pairing dinners and have never been disappointed, until October 14, Sunday brunch. This has been our "go to" French restaurant for many years.Last Sunday was undoubtedly one of the worst meals we have had in Carrboro or the Triangle. My spouse ordered French Onion Soup, which she requested as always, browned on the top. It arrived and it obviously was burnt on one side and the other side was barely melted - it should have been obvious to the server, but we didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. My escargot were overcooked and tough - I had never experienced this before either as this is one of my favorites on the brunch menu.My wife ordered a salad Bergère, and it was a very small salad. I ordered the Galette Bretagne with lobster, scallops, and shrimp with a sauce meunière. It arrived without sauce, and with cold cheese in the interior of the galette. The seafood was over-seasoned and over-cooked with a lot of pepper and way too much salt. There was no sauce on it whatsoever. I asked about the side salad with the galette, and when it came it was twice the size of my wife's salad. Her's was to be her main course. The server, a young man, seemed totally unengaged. We had to request from other servers additional wine, water, and ultimately the check. We were comped for the galette, but had to go to the bar to pay for our meal. We requested to talk to the manager, but no one came to see us. We had theater tickets and had to leave after 5 minutes of waiting. We have always enjoyed Chef Baptist's food - he was not in the kitchen this Sunday; however, I wrote a similar note on their website and received no response. I can only assume that they no longer want our business.

Dining in Chapel Hill? This is your destination. In two visits in the last two months, La Residence has offered a nicely varied menu, excellent food, service that can't be topped, and atmosphere that's elegant but very comfortable. Food that's locally sourced means freshness that is hard to beat. The wait staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly without "joining" the table. Besides a large wine selection and standard cocktails, there is a refreshing list of specialty cocktails. Parking is not a problem as there is a municipal garage right across the street. I'm already looking forward my next visit.
