In too many years to admit to, I have had burgers rank next to pizza as my favorite foods. The burger I had here ranks among the very best ever eaten. While there are many great restaurants to visit, this pub is near the top for me.

When we first walked in we were extremely put off... the woman working the bar area downstairs was rude, unfriendly, and down right miserable... which doesnât seem to match the personalities of people we met in Asheville. After ordering our beer and headed upstairs we were delighted to see another bar upstairs and a view of the brewery (unfortunately we were not there on a tour day). The outside seating area was awesome... my family and I played games for a few hours while sipping beers. The brewery had a great vibe to it and it was our favorite!!!

Established in 1997, Jack of the Wood is one of downtown Asheville's first and oldest pubs. We have numerous local craft brews to try, serve fantastic Irish/British Isles pub fare using local ingredients, and have live music every day!
Food was mostly good, Shepard's pie and the hamburger were excellent, fries not worth eating. They have music every night and the service was excellent.

My wife and I attempted to eat at several of the highly regarded local restaurants while visiting Asheville. We found several of the well known ones couldnât get us in during our visit, so I recommend making reservations well in advance. We selected Packâs for a couple reasons: it has a large capacity and it had one of the broader menus. Many of the restaurants only had 5 or 6 entrees on their menu. Even though Packâs is a large place, I recommend reservations. We walked by it one night and the line went well out the door. My wife had flounder and I had a brined chicken, which was the weekly special. Both were well-prepared. The chicken was juicy, not dry. Our waiter recommended both dishes out of a few options we asked about. Prices were on the low side compared to most restaurants in the area. The beverage selection was broad and also reasonably priced. We were quite happy with the experience.Thank you for the nice review. There are some wonderful restaurants in Asheville, but we try to be a little different with seating for some larger groups, a wonderful atmosphere in our restored 1912 building and a menu that allows everyone to find something to love (and something different each time they visit!).We hope you will visit again soon!Sincerely,Steve WrightManaging Partner

The beer is very good and made on the premises. Right outside the door in the parking lot is a food truck that has fabulous sandwiches. The place was recommended by our B&B and the food was so good, we came back a second time

Stopped by to watch a band and have a beer. The venue for the band was outdoors and excellent. A large number of sour beers and several other (IPA, Stout). The beer was very good and bartender service was great.

We are a very casual neighborhood restaurant and bar, with great food and a great list of house brewed beers. Please stop in, seat yourself and we will do our best to take care of you. Cheers, Billy & Jim
Atmosphere is terrific. We had the blue cheese fried oysters and they were excellent. Also had the Gumbo and it was the best we're ever had, anywhere. Finished with the grilled shrimp salad and that as well was plentiful and very good. Love the fact that the beers are all their own brews. Recommend the Stouts. Bloody Mary's are also very very good. Prices I think are all a very good value. Don't understand some of the other review comments. We have two of the most trendy and best restaurants in the city right across the street from each other (Oyster House and Sunny Point). Highly recommend both.
