Laughing Heart Lodge opened in August 2012 after extensive renovation. The lodge was built in 1892 and for over 50 years was a Jesuit Retreat Center. Today Laughing Heart Lodge offers accommodations for visitors and travelers in its 9 lovingly renovated rooms (7 with private baths) and most with exceptional mountain views. Laughing Heart also has a hostel which is at the trailhead of the Appalachian Trail and offers very affordable lodging for hikers and other visitors to Hot Springs.
Upon arrival, I was very confused at how to check-in as there was no clear signage. But, other hikers hanging out on the lawn guided me to who I should speak with to check in. I stayed in both the bunk room and a private room and honestly, I would recommend the bunk room unless you absolutely need the privacy of a private room. The private room is of course more money, but the walls are so thin that you might as well be in the bunk room. I liked how many bathrooms/showers there were as I never had too much of an issue finding an open one when I needed one. Easy walk to town and easy access to the trail. Laundry was difficult to get done since there are only 2 washers/2 dryers and they allow anyone to do laundry there (not just hostel guests). Would stay again, though.

I had always seen and wanted to stay in this funky hostel. Now that we have, I'm over it. The only spot available when we booked was the tiny house.Tried calling multiple times at various times of the day to see if there was a waitlist for an inside private room but all I got was a recording saying don't bother leaving a message. I was prepared to have to go outside and into the main building for indoor plumbing, and the house was, indeed, quite tiny. But it was also made of scrap wood, uninsulated, and drafty and apparently had the only crappy mattress (with bowed slats underneath) in the entire place (staff told me they were surprised since all the others are memory foam). A small space heater and lots of blankets were provided. There were only two places for to shower and we had to wait for almost an hour to get in. The first night I almost tripped over a railroad tie in the dark backyard on the path to the tiny house, wrenched my back, and between the cold and the aforementioned mattress of torture, spent the entire next day looking for a chiropractor. A week and a half later, back home, still in pain and have spent enough on medical care to have stayed in a much classier place. On the positive side: location, location, location. Wonderful restaurants, shops, the ISIS concert venue, and the Halloween festival on Vermont street all right there.Gotta love West Asheville! The staff were all friendly, all new to the area, all working in return for staying in the dungeon. The owner is clearly absentee in many respects.

I stayed in this hotel with my kids. This is the most filthiest hotel you can stay at. The mold, roaches, and mice! The manager and staff are so unprofessional and rude. The house keepers steal. I’ve included photos for proof.

I’m not usually the hostel type of girl but I needed a cheap clean place at the beach on a super busy weekend. This place was clean and secure and on Front St. about a 5 minute walk from the riverside bars and restaurants in Wilmington. Beds were super comfy. Location was safe. Bathrooms were clean. All for $35. Cannot be beat!!! If you don’t mind sleeping on a bunk bed and sharing a bathroom this place is a GEM!!!!!!

Asheville Hostel is no longer available through this entity. At one time we were listed through Booking, which owns this review service and half the reservation systems on the internet.
Asheville Hostel & Guest House in Asheville, NC was perfect for my needs. It was clean and safe. It had everything that I needed to be comfortable (clean linens, towels, clean bathroom, well-stocked kitchen, etc.). FYI, This is not a party hostel. This is a quiet hostel located in a quiet neighborhood which I prefer over the traditional party hostel. I did not encounter any problems. I would definitely consider staying here again.

In a newly renovate historic building in the heart of downtown Asheville. We are a European style hostel and a great alternative to a hotel for travelers on a budget. Our beds start at $32 per night and we are clean and comfortable with friendly knowledgeable staff.
First time at a hostel and we loved it. The staff was super friendly and everything was so clean. This location is unbelievable, we were able to walk everywhere. I will say you’ll want to anticipate sleeping with ear plugs. Everyone is respectful at night but people snore.

Sunnybank Inn is a Retreat Center and Hostel for Appalachian Trail hikers in Hot Springs, North Carolina. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Sunnybank Inn is a Victorian Italianate structure with seven bedrooms, six porches, a music room, a commons room, two dining rooms, and a long history of welcoming travelers from near and far.
We stayed at Sunnybank for a Mushroom Foray and all meals were included for our 2.5-day stay. We loved the old house with all the antiques and other memorabilia. We were too busy to look at all of it, because our mycologist leaders kept us going with three hikes to look for whatever mushrooms were out there, and Elmer and his helpers kept us going with sumptuous and nutritious vegetarian meals. It's a unique property with a flavor all its own. It may not be for those who must have an en suite bathroom or a room that passes the white glove test. In all honesty, I border on this, but Elmer's place is so amazingly cool, the guests so interesting, and the food so exceptional that some things just can and need to be put aside. The experience seemed a little bit like a house party with amiable and polite strangers that very likely could become friends. My husband, I, and the friend who drove down with us all loved it and want to go back. There is WIFI, and it seemed to work better in the back part of the house than the front. Since I didn't come here to play with my phone, it didn't matter to me. Frankly, I was kind of glad to be away from "news." Please note, there are areas in which you are asked not to use your phone. I put "not sure" on housekeeping, because while toilet paper is replenished daily and rooms are tidied and sheets changed AFTER your stay, there isn't a daily vacuum or anything like that. Some of the categories I didn't bother to rate, because this property just doesn't fit into the normal pigeonholes, a refreshing change in my opinion. We felt very comfortable leaving our things in the unlocked rooms. As expected in an old house, it doesn't have AC, but there are fans when it's hot.

The Appalachian Trail-er is a bunkhouse with 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are 4 bunks in one bedroom and 6 in the other. There is a communal living space as well as a kitchen. We also sell shuttles and rental gear for backpacking trips.
I absolutely loved my stay at the Trail-er! It was such a great place to rest during my section hike into town because it’s literally right on the trail when you get out of the woods. The Trail-er is bright and clean and relaxing with bunk rooms and showers, plus a kitchen and common area. Blue Ridge Hiking Company has high end lightweight gear available for rental, plus some dehydrated meals, and supplies like bug spray and sunscreen if needed. The bunks are super comfortable with linens. The caretaker is very knowledgeable about local trails, and is a triple crowner. The location is perfect, and everything is within short walking distance, including the diner, tavern, post office, and outfitter. Would highly recommend!!!
