We ate here on our first night after seeing it was rated top of the local restaurants. The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly and attentive. We both ordered steaks and a drink and were quite disappointed with the food quality - very ordinary. Looking round, most of the diners were eating seafood!

On a cloudy Monday afternoon, we enjoyed delicious salads in a luncheon package that included desert and coffee. The quality and preparation of the food was excellent. The house wine choices were fine and tasty. Service was ... French. Dessert took half an hour to deliver even though it was well past the lunch rush hour. But street watching along the Avenue de la Mer is always delightful.

It would be difficult to find a better position. Overlooking the beach at Cabourg and a great view of the sunset. We had a charming waiter called Gerrard, very friendly and excellent service. My friends all tried the LâEscalope de Poulet a la Normandie which they said was excellent. I had one of my favourite dishes in Normandy La Marmite du Pecheur. Which contains salmon, white fish and mussels. It was lovely. This is mainly a fish restaurant but does have some choices for meat eaters.

Dinner with kids in a very small and quiet high street resturant which caters mostly for thier guests in their 8 bed hotel. very rich food all covered in fussy and excessive garnish. Disappointed and would not recommend to families with kid. More the older clientelle.

One of the few restaurants in Houlgate that starts serving food before 7pm for dinner, La Maison du Coquillage caters very well for your typical British family. Good value, especially with the set menu. I had the tasty tuna, avocado and goats cheese to start. Main was moules mariniere (only slight complaint is the taste of wine could have been more subtle). The kids menu is more basic with daughter number one plumping for chicken nuggets. Overall, itâs worth it. One note of caution for British tourists; there is the French habit of the kidsâ food coming first. That means you end up eating your main with the stress of keeping your sprogs entertained.

We came back to eat in downtown Cabourg for a third night and chose L'Embarcadère. This restaurant was full when we got there around 8.30. There was extensive choice on the menu, beef, fish, pasta and pizza. Our family made full use of the varied menu. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was initially attentive. The waiters were friendly and spoke good English and an English menu was also available .The set 3 course meal was good value priced at 19 euros. The food was OK. Maybe the unique flavours were not exactly to our tastes, but I am sure that they will be to the tastes of others. The service was fast but it took time to get our main courses after our starters - and an absolute age to get and pay our bill!

In Cabourg, located in the heart of Normandy between Caen and Deauville, Le Baligan welcomes you to propose fish and seafood specialties. Simple and gourmand recipes using fresh products is our asset.
We stopped here for lunch as a last treat before we drove on to the ferry to return home after a few days around Bayeux. We were lucky to get a table on a busy Sunday in the Easter hols, without booking. What a find! This is what eating in France is all about, and we were so glad to have this as our last meal of the trip! Start to finish we were treated with flair, grace and professionalism. The food was superb - everything! Probably doesnât matter what you have as it all looks amazing, but we had Fish Soup starter with all the usual trimmings, because itâs a holiday favourite. It was spot on.Then I had Choucroute de la Mer because itâs a regional speciality and Iâve never had it - basically braised white cabbage with bacon and 3 types of fish on top with shellfish too. Superb. Robert had grilled hake on a spinach risotto with scallops and mussels. The desserts were amazing too. Altogether a top class experience. Ended our little holiday on such a high note! We will make a special trip next time to try one of the gorgeous seafood platters we saw going past all the time!

Very good quality food, decent wine at reasonable prices in Pots and good selection in bottles.English Menu (Carte) available and English understood. The Carte is limited, however as long as it is changed often that would be fine as most tastes are covered. A meal for 2 with 3 courses and house wine cost 86 Euros. Set menu options are available at lunch time but not in the evening. A very welcome addition to the Dives and Cabourg restaurants, I wish it well. I also hope that they will publish an email address for bookings.Thank you for your comment to see you soon adeline and frank.
