We visited this rural Spanish restaurant for dinner on 19/08/2014 and as myself, wife and kids were the only English diners at this locals restaurant we initially felt somewhat dubious. However we were quickly proven wrong when we sat down at the table and were made to feel very welcome, the staff could see that we were struggling a little with the language barrier with one lady coming across and making a point of translating each item on the menu and describing the dish in English. The food was phenomenal with delicate flavours and an artisan touch, some of the dishes were on the small side but fitted in with the nouveau cuisine served at this place. Normally we enjoy hearty meals with big portions however we felt it was well worth the sacrifice of portion sizes versus high quality and flavoursome food. The experience was capped off with the optional al fresco dining in the walled garden/restaurant Terrace (with an outside wall mounted tv screen) at the front of this property. We would definitely return, ique approveche!

Whenever you reader may try this restaurant, I am sure you will agree with the abovementioned title. A beautiful location in a golf court, a quiet Terrace with good weather, a glass walled kitchen, a very very good wine list with moderate prices, a prof customer oriented service, a recomendation by Michelin, one of the best chefs in Cantabria, and last but not least a degustation menu with an unbeatable price and served on a beautiful table with prime glass, pottery, cloth....Our menu began with an appetizer ( vermouth glass, super thin crisps and stuffed olives), a beetroot carpaccio with a topping of foie and gorgonzola cheese followed, a low degree cooked egg with ham helped to finish the first piece of bread, a rissotto finished our first bottle of wine, a portion of salmon on a bed of spongy potatoes with egg was served before an au point magret of duck. Relax because now came the sweet dishes- one with a foamy mousse of a local soft cheese and a second one of something against the weightwatchers. A nice coffee was finally served with more gourmandises. In sum a very pleasant two hours for only 120 euros ( two persons, two bottles of wine, two full menus ) with a fine quality according with the expectations. By the way this menu is called "Sensations". Now you can understand the title!!!

After 3 years of visiting Noja, we finally tried this restaurant located just below our apartment.
Friendly staff and good food, with just enough frills to make it stand above your average "dish of the day" menu.
The place has great views of the beach and the sea below, and has a grill where they cook the meat (everyone knows grilled food tastes better!). The main problem is that the daily menu is the same everyday, so you can't actually go there more than twice or three times a week unless you are ready to spend more money ordering from the general menu.
All in all, a good find.

First the location is superb, over a relaxed two hour lunch we watched the tide come in and learned the Spanish words 'Ria' [river mouth] and 'Marea' high tide]. It is stunning location, where they use fresh sea water to charge their live lobster and shellfish tanks.
The food was superb, we had the BBQ mixed shellfish platter 2x2 for four people and could only just eat it all. Home made desserts, and local wines were fabulous.
Highly recommended for a Taste of Cantabria.
Recommend BOOKING and to arrive ON-TIME!

We went there to have a bite not full dinner. The 'rabas de abancando" are to die for. We also tried the cake platter which was better looking than taste.
We had a pretty serious incident and the waiter and kitchen staff reacted just proffessionally but in a way dissappointly considering what had happened.

Recommended by friends as well as folks in Noja. It is located outside of town along one of the town's two Beaches. Follow the street that runs down from the church. Keep going straight. Probably about 2kms out of town.
The restaurant itself is a non-descript cement block building painted a loud blue color, with a Terrace. It may not be much to look at but don't let that fool you.
We ordered the Parriada de Pescado (for 2) which consisted of 5-6 different kinds of fish grilled over coals. Light salt. It is not vertical cuisine! There is no lemon grass! Just the beautiful flavor of fresh grilled fish. I am not normally a fish person but this was great.
I suspect the place gets busy especially in high season so Reservations might be recommended, if they take them.

We were here earlier on in the year and thought the ensalada horreo was beautiful, second time around, still my favourite salad of all time. The croquettes outstanding; chunks of ham, so grains of it. The black pudding well presented.
Service was spot on, as were the gin and tonics. Seems to be our favourite place before heading back to the UK.

This has been one of the best meals we have ever had in a restaurant. We went one of the last Saturdays of December 2013. Over the weekends, this restaurant offers a 7-courses menu which is just impressive. Apparently, this weekend menu changes every 3 months so you have an incentive to come back again. We have the pleasure of getting: 1) a box of local cheeses (presented in a box like chocolates); 2) Foie or orange? 3) Santoña's anchovy with pepper ice-cream (presented like if if it was a strawberry); 4) risotto; 5) rape (fish); 6) beef-solomillo; 7) dessert (presented as if it was fried eggs).
All the 7 courses were delicious. We were surprised every time one of them was served. Explanations about the content from waiters were clear and precise. We even got an extra surprise with the coffees! Our 8-years old daughter got an infant menu at a very reasonable price. The price of the adults' menu was also extremely reasonable, even cheap (only 25 euros). Good Spanish wines (from Toro, Rioja or Ribera del Duero) were available, again, at reasonable prices (most bottles were priced between 13 and 20 euros).
The restaurant is more or less 5 km from one of the Bilbao-Santander A-8 highway exits (after Laredo, coming from Bilbao), close to a Repsol petrol station. Parking is therefore available.
Only 2 cons: 1) we had to wait quite a long time for getting the bill; 2) police alcohol-check was performed in the next village in the way back to the highway. But only the first one can be solved by the owner of the restaurant ;-)

Our Spanish is very weak so we were thankful for the helpful staff & the arrival of a translated menu. We chose from the burgers & had an excellent meal for less than 6 euros.
Frothy coffee is translated as "Coffee with scum", which made us smile - as did the "fried milk". A lovely bar with great food & helpful staff - we revisted several times.
