After a rough stay at El Zopilote and our friend at Little Morgans - we were all seeking somewhere with more creature comforts. los Cocos is a very different experience - with showers attached to your room and non-wooden facilities. We were unfortunate enough to be on Ometepe during Storm Nate, which meant our first floor room flooded. The power went out and we spent a whole day trapped here. We basically didn't leave the hotel (there was a group of 8 of us in the end) and all of us had all three meals there which meant we had most stuff on the menu by the time we left. The food is highly recommended, the grilled fish and any of their dishes with fries particularly so. The owner pulled his generator out so we still had a bit of light at night time and he had no problems making calls with his mobile to see what was going on with ferrys etc. as well as for calling us taxis. I would recommend initially for food but $10 a night to stay is also a fair rate for the area.
Where to eat Cafe food in Santa Cruz: The Best Restaurants and Bars
We had two wonderful dinners here staying next door at the Omaja. Angel and his wife were wonderful and gracious hosts with delicious food and do not leave without getting the House cocktail! The best. Our only regret is that we were leaving before the pizza oven got fired up (Saturday/Sunday).

El Picante provides delicious Mexican cuisine and great service. Located 70 meters from Moyogalpa dock. Best place to eat when coming to Ometepe Island or catching your ferry back to the main land. Enjoy spicy or mild nachos, fajitas, quesadillas, and mor
Unfortunately this place promises Mexican food, but at most it could be considered some pale version of TexMex. The food is definitely eatable, but very overpriced. The owner/guy that works there is very sweet though. Dear unsatisfied customer,Sorry for last night experience @ El Picante.But.. couldn't wait couple hours to write the review!!I Since I received it few hours later of you leaving my place.Hopefully you slept better after taking your frustration off your chest.First, you complained to me that your cheese quesadillas didn't have vegetables, which I apologized to you and brought you vegetables. When I returned to your table to ask you if everything was ok, you said yes.I admit that we are not perfect here, I always listen to comments from my customers specially face to face and try to improve the quality of our food.Been running this Restaurant more than 10 years. If you don't think it's Mexican, I am sure by reading the reviews, 90% think it is. When people says that everything is good( as you did) and couple hours later criticized you, I found it very add especially knowing Netherlands people which are always straight forward. We offer the menu as soon as you enter the Restaurant, not when we hand you the check. If you think we are overpriced, please hand the menu back to us and walk away. We never changed to look at the menu. Our prices ranges from $ 3 - $7 max.Your Cheese quesadilla and chicken quesadilla for the person you were with plus 2 drinks came up to $ 13.3.And this included a fee chips&psalsa before your meal.Coming from Europe, I have a hard time understanding your observation of beeing overpriced. You can always grab a bite on the street for around $3 but may ( not always) spend few days laying in bed while paying extras days at your hotel. The choice is your.Good luck finding Authentic Mexican Restaurant on Ometepe Island.
