The Ngorongoro Volcano blew its top millions of years ago, leaving behind the world’s largest intact caldera. Inside the crater—covering more than 100 square miles—is an ecosystem that’s home to more than 25,000 animals. You’ll have a great chance of spotting lions, as there’s a higher density here than anywhere else on earth, along with leopards and cheetahs. Black rhinos are also a common sight, as are hippos, zebras, hyenas...the list goes on and on. Outside the crater, more than a million wildebeest sweep through during the Great Migration. See signs of our first known human ancestor, who walked these plains 1.9 million years, at nearby Olduvai Gorge.

Perched on the edge of the famous Ngorongoro Crater with magnificent views of the Crater floor. 11 tents offering an elegant fusion of modern and classic accommodation, en suite bathrooms adorned with fresh flowers and cristal, porcelain and wooden platters makes every meal a special occasion, blending elegant simplicity with a laid back style.
Camp with an amazing view over the crater, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food was also surprisingly good and filling. The surprise was that they literally poor hot water manually in the shower but i guess it's understandable considering the remote location. The rooms are nothing special but the hot water bottle in bed at night was amazing as it was very very cold. We chilled around the fire, drank some whiskey and had a nice chat with the other guests , and ofc the huge waterbuffalo that came strolling throughout the camp at night. 1-2 nights is more than enough for the crater and would not recommend staying more.

Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge is centrally situated on the northern safari circuit in Tanzania. Close to Lake Manyara National Park and the gate to Ngorongoro Crater it’s the perfect stopover between the two. Using Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge as a base for a few days you can also visit Tarangire National Park (about 1hr 30mins away) and Lake Eyasi (30mins away) as well as explore the region around Karatu where there are many hiking/walking opportunities and possibilities for cultural exchanges.
Very nice views and food. Very quiet place, perfect to relax after a day in one of the national parks which are near by. Bed was very confortable and there is not a noise apart from those of nature (day and night)! Great people who make you feel confortable always with a smile and giving you space but making sure you are attended at all times. Very clean and very stylish decoration. Tents are spacious, very comfortable, and not close to each other. We definitelly recommend it!

Opened in Dec 2013, the lodge is Tanzania's newest base for game viewing in Ndutu and southeastern Serengeti. A true African safari experience with unique blend of nature and luxurious living, lodge offers 22 guest tents with wooden floor raised a metre off the ground and set 15m from each other for privacy, all nestling underneath palm fronds roofing for shade and protection against the elements. The lodge boasts of two suites, specially designed to suit families with children.
This is perhaps the best lodge in the southern Serengeti. And it is the best, most luxurious tent lodge I've ever visited. The "tents" are large and comfortable. The food is pretty good. Best of all, there are opportunities to see wildlife both in the camp (giraffes can wander inbaroundndawn) and in the immediate area.

The camp is located in the most remarkable natural wonder in all of Africa and the World Heritage Site – Ngorongoro Crater. The camp has 20 spacious and luxuriouselevated tented rooms with private balconies that can host private dinners or lunches that overlooks Lake Eyasi.
Ngorongoro Wildcamp is a very well run luxury camp. We had a truly fantastic two days in this picture perfect camp. Everyithing was much better than we expected; the raised canvas rooms with amazing views, delicious meals served, evening bonfire, the afternoon walks with armed Maasai guards. It was just as paradise should be. It was really good value and I would not hesitate to return or recommend to my family and friends.

Crossing the Rift Valley and climbing the steppe onto the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, there lies a truly undeniable surprise and one that will be a home-away-from-home. The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the north west Tanzania and with its 9 luxurious cottages (18 Suites), family cottage, and magnificent main Manor House, is one of the first safari lodges of its kind to blend East African hospitality with old-world Afro-European architecture and decor. Located adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro conservation area and within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture.
Excellent. It is as lovely as it looks in the photos. It's a beautiful property. The room was massive and had terrace in the lovely gardens as well. Full air-conditioning, fine dining cuisine, great wine list: it could have been a five star hotel anywhere. As other reviews say, the journey down into the crater is somewhat frustrating, but it is a long way down, and the Manor is as well placed as any other lodges outside the national park itself. Our guide took us from the airport to the Lake Manyara National Park on the way to the Manor. We wouldn't recommend that at the time of year we went: The lake area was very flooded and visitors and vehicles were not allowed to leave the main road and get near to the lake. So apart from baboons we didn't see much. The Ngorongo crater is jaw-droppingly awesome. It's such an enormous space, and very open so you can see a long way. And it is just teeming with wildlife of all sorts. There were a lot of vehicles around, but it never felt crowded as there was so much open space.. And with so many guides around, there was a lot of sharing information about the best place to see different animals at different times of day.

A beautiful tented camp at the edge of the Ngorongoro Tropical Forest.Enjoy romantic sun downers or twilight dinners on your veranda with theastonishing landscape views of the dense forest. Watch wildlife, likeelephants, roaming through the forest, hear the lions roar and listen to the magical sounds of the tropical night. The camp is set a 10 kilometer scenic drive away from the main road leading from the bustling commercial center of Karatu town to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. The camp is located on a highland coffee plantation at an altitude of 1,800 m, directly bordering the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (NCAA). Forest Crater Tented Camp is operated as a small scale eco-friendly camp with 15 luxury tented rooms, on highly raised platforms with magnificent views over the Ngorongoro Forest. The rooms are spacious, stylishly furnished and have en-suite bathrooms with a hot shower and flush toilet. There is even an African-style fire pot in every room, to keep warm in those chilly upland nights. In the morning you will wake up to the sounds of the awakening forest, when the nocturnal wildlife makes way for a mistily rising sunlight. Rise and shine for a new day…Staying at Crater Forest Tented Camp will be an experience you'll never forget.
Had a lovely and peaceful stay in the Crater Forest Camp. We were staying in small wooden huts with an excellent view towards the forests of the Ngnorongoro Conservation Area. We were able to spot elephants roaming the forest from our terrace!! Fantastic and very friendly staff and nice food. I just wish the bathroom in the huts would be separated by a door, not just with a curtain. To reach the camp, our driver had to navigate through a huge coffee farm on what he called "African Massage Road". The road was a challenge, so I would not want to visit the camp during rain season. Presumably some local children had some fun changing the direction of the road signs. Our guide still managed to deliver us safely without any problem.

Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees.
We stayed a night here and the rooms were lovely and comfortable with a great terrace overlooking the crater. There is a nice lounge for drinks and they have a massai group entertainment in the evening. The food is ok but like all Serena lodges lacks variety. Didn’t get breakfast as had to leave early. Good location for visiting the crater I loved the hot water bottles in the bed in the evening! Nice touch as it does get chilly. The staff were lovely.

A luxury lodge in Northern Tanzania, Gibb’s Farm offers a welcome respite for the East Africa safari traveller. Immerse yourself in a sanctuary for the senses, where the farm’s gentle rhythms impart a sense of peace and well-being. Experience a sense of place as you recline on your verandah, walk in the Ngorongoro Forest or explore the back roads of Karatu. Replenish with inspired organic cuisine, fresh from the farm’s gardens, bakery and dairy. Surround yourself with the rich traditions of East African life, exclusive to Gibb’s Farm, and share an eternal sense of history and community.
We loved the staff and food at Gibbs Farm. The farms grows/produces approximately 80% of its own food which was excellent at every meal. The serving staff in the restaurant is lovely, so friendly and attentive, it was great. The property is beautiful and wonderful for walking around, we toured the plantation and the farm as well as did the hike to the elephant caves and waterfall in the conservation area which we highly recommend. The one downside of the rooms was that the beds were not very comfortable which was too bad because everything else was excellent.

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge is dramatically perched on the rim of Africa’s Eden, affording unbelievable views plunging down over the crater floor, 7,500 feet above the sea level. The Lodge is elegantly built mainly from natural stone and local wood and timber, harmoniously merging with its natural surroundings, and it is provided with panoramic windows that encompass superb views of the crater’s great bowl.
Great location on rim of crater for viewing crater plain below. Heavy mist in the mornings so need to be in lodge later in the day to take advantage of the viewing and searching for animals with high-powered binoculars located on the deck. Staff was very friendly and helpful and food was good. Drawback was uncomfortably cold temperature. There is no heating or cooling (a/c) in the lodge. Occupancy was very low when we were there (late August 2021) and we were told that more people made the place warmer. Wasn't all that troublesome for us but others in our family complained about the cold.
