So our third visit here......
Let’s start with the good
GOOD: I feel this place has a great atmosphere. Not too big, always a good feel about it.
Staff were welcoming. We had a lovely table by the window. Wine was nice, maybe a few pounds on the expensive side, but nothing to write home about.
The food itself was just lovely. The starters, the mains, just awarding. Really tasty and a good sized portion. Not so big that it’s a challenge!!! And not that small you feel you have been hard done by. Lovely ice cream and lemoncello to finish. Not rushed......an excellent evening out.
It’s a nice touch that the owner (every time we have been there) has asked how things were.
Now to the bad
BAD: Nothing!!

Visited Sol Y Sombra this evening with my family, 1 vegan (me), 1 vegetarian, 3 carnivores! Booked a table rough 6 weeks ago as we knew it was super busy! Confirmed last night that we had special requirements. Arrived and were immediately seated in the upstairs bar! We ordered Sangria (10/10), and then the food began!
First of all we were brought olives and we spicy nuts!
Secondly, we were brought a cold selection of tapas! The rest of the table were brought their food and I was brought a huge selection of vegan delights! The staff were super friendly, knowledgable about the food and really set a good vibe!
After we finished the ‘starter’, the staff brought out the hot selection of tapas! So much great food was on our table!! There was such variety for meat and non meat eaters!
From a vegan point of view this has been the best vegan food I have eaten! I am so used to having a slightly questionable mushroom risotto that when this stunning food came to the table I was overjoyed!
Phill- the owner, came and spoke to me personally, about where the food had come from and how the pickled cucumber was from his mother-in-law’s very own garden in Poland, (Well travelled cucumber!!) and what each vegan dish had in it!!
I can not express enough how great the quality and variety of the vegan food at Sol Y Sombra was! This really was a great dinner and I will definitely be coming back as often as possible!
Thank you to Phill and all the staff for having us!!!

The food is Modern Scottish featuring fresh local produce from a seasonally changing menu. The cooking style is all about ingredients and the dishes are not over complicated letting the flavours speak for themselvesFront of house is friendly, relaxed and informal –the décor modern contemporary with impressive designs… Nothing has been overlooked which makes them stand out from the crowd and definitely worth a detour. There’s a reason The View is called The View - it has one of the most impressive views over the River Tay. On a summer’s day, it's clear, sparkling and beautiful. When the weather isn't quite so accommodating, it's dramatic, striking and ever changing. It’s the perfect venue for exclusive private functions such as Birthdays, Anniversaries or Weddings with stunning views across the Tay and catering for up to 70 people its ideally equipped for any special occasion. CLOSED ON MONDAYS.. TUESDAY - SATURDAY MEALS SERVED 10AM-2PM & 6.30PM-9PM OPEN ALL DAY ON SUNDAYS- MEALS SERVED; 11AM-2PM & 5.30PM-7.30PM
First time in this restaurant and was very pleased with the quality and varied selection of the food on offer. Prices very reasonable and excellent service from the staff.
Great views over the River Tay towards Dundee.
Highly recommend this establishment and will certainly be back.

Tickety Boo’s is a traditional bar that offers a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. It boasts a horseshoe-shaped bar and original stained glass windows, but there is nothing traditional about its modern standards. This top performing bar has won awards from Best Bar None, Cask Marque and The British Institute of Innkeeping. Tickety Boo’s has a great selection of drinks from a large range of Scotland’s favourite whiskies to rum, cocktails (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), world beers and award winning draught beer. For those of you who are not in the mood for an alcoholic drink why not enjoy a home cooked meal, coffee or some of our great entertainment. The Staff are happy, friendly and fun and are always quick to serve. Come in and listen to some great live music, compete in our quiz, play a friendly game of poker or watch live sport.
This well loved pub is easily found near the bus station in the sea gate.It has been refirbed with an upstairs but many original features remain in the windows and woodwork.
There is a good selection of beer and food and Seating is in cosy booths

Tea and Cake offer Breakfast, Lunch and Coffee shop menus. Everything is prepared fresh here every day by our dedicated team (you can even watch them do it in our open plan theatre kitchen). With Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian dishes and Cakes always on the menu as well as daily changing soups and weekly changing specials there truly is something for everyone any time of day.
Where to begin! Friendly staff who are obviously so proud of the cafe. On my first visit, I came in for brunch - had avocado on toast with soup (spicy parsnip, leek and turnip I think it was, all delicious - and veg was homegrown) along with a Chai "charger" latte. The whole vibe of the cafe was so welcoming, I went back the next day with my husband for a late breakfast. He had a couple of breakfast rolls and I had something with a funny name (sorry I forgot!!), like a ratatoullie with poached eggs on top, served with some home baked bread. There are notices up on the wall stating where they get their produce from, and lots of veggie/vegan/gluten free options.

Have been a few times now for coffee or tea. Last visit for tea was superb. Great homemade pizzas and a fantastic sharing platter. Even the house wine was good. I think it is family run and all the staff are welcoming and friendly. Tables set that look typically Italian and cosy. Prices reasonable. I hesitate to recommend as I might not now get my favourite table! Is really nice though.

Came across this place after being very disappointed at the Medina round the corner. It was 9.30pm and they were closing at 10pm but were fantastic. We were served promptly but courteously and the food was great. Cold beers and complimentaries. We were treated with hospitality and warmth and didn't leave until almost 10.30. Will certainly be back.

Having heard of this chip shop, we were finally treated to fish and chips here. The orders are taken as you queue and specially prepared. The small portion £4.50 is plentiful and my husband struggled with his regular portion. We enjoyed our meal so much we returned later in our holiday. Although the weather was cooler, we were able to eat at a picnic table overlooking the Tay with Dundee across the water. Trains crossing the Tay Bridge.

A fantastic addition to Newport on Tay's evolving scene created by the KitschnBake team. An eatery aware of the importance of quality products matched with friendly service. Ingredients supplied by small, local, like minded companies and staff happy to be at their work. This welcoming space has uninterrupted views over the River Tay to Dundee. Perfect for enjoying our spectatular Scottish sunsets, dolphin watching and our award winning baking.
We genuinely believe that the poor review submitted recently MUST have got KitschnBake muddled up with another cafe! We have been coming here since it opened and rarely miss our morning coffee here. So we are in a great position to review it! We have ALWAYS been welcomed with warm smiles and genuine interest. The coffee is consistently good and the cakes, scones, quiches, frittatas are often very usual and interesting taste combinations. Everyone here is interested in serving great food and providing excellent customer service. Yes, it's very busy at times and you sometimes have a short wait for a table or for the coffee to arrive but you expect that at peak times. It's a sign of a popular venue and that must be good! We are truly lucky to have this great place on our doorstep! Our grandson loves it too. It's the highlight of his day! Well done all at KitschnBake. Don't change a thing!

Having berated the restaurant following the screw-up of a previous booking, I was still determined to try it and have to say that I am so pleased to have given it a second chance. The lunch menu was absolutely fantastic, the quality excellent, and the service exemplary. I shall have no hesitation in revisiting. Well done!
