It's been awhile since my last visit and based on how crowded this place always seems to be, I expected to have some good Mexican food. That was not the case on this particular night. The staff is friendly and efficient, but when my server handed me a menu that was full of lettuce and sour cream on the inside pages, I had a feeling things were going to go downhill. The chips were rather stale and hadn't been warmed. The salsas were fine, but it didn't matter because the chips weren't tasty. Our plates of food, while steaming hot, were also covered with a layer of cheese that had become crusted onto the tops of our enchiladas and rellenos. I was able to peel an entire crust of it off of my plate. I like cheese, but not in the excessive amount that was layered on our food. Everything was smothered in it. Maybe that's the way a lot of people like it, but I would rather taste something other than cheese. The rellenos were a mess. I had to dig down into it to find any evidence of a chili. It appeared that there was just a tiny sliver of chili that had been deep fried in the thickest batter I've ever seen. All I could taste was batter and more cheese. The fish tacos were unremarkable. Not a lot of fish and as we didn't finish them because again, everything was drenched in cheese - yuck!
To be fair, my husband and I didn't have this experience on our last visit. I don't know what's changed, but I don't think I'll be back for quite some time.

The coffee shop is right on the highway and very inviting inside and out. Free fast WIFI.
Service so kind and friendly and clean bathrooms.
Coffee is organic but US standard American tasting weak coffee (even dark roast). They do almond and coconut milk as milk substitutes.
Smoothie horrible because cloyingly sweet. We had to throw it out.
We were disappointed.

I recently bought a latte and slice of their lemon cake here. Nothing special, just fairly typical for a Starbucks. This one right inside the Safeway grocery store. No seating, purely a takeout location

The baristas are all talented, kind and helpful. The coffee is amazing, and I won't buy mine anywhere else!

What a disappointment. We got there on a Sunday at 12:10 and it was a beautiful mostly sunny day. There were only two elderly couples in the place; I'm 57 and my wife is 51 and we were YOUNG. "There's your sign." We asked to be seated outside, but the waitress would not let us, as she said she had not washed the tables; give me a rag, I'll do it.
The service was very good, and by the time we were finished eating, the place had totally filled up - on the inside. It was Father's Day. Everything started going downhill from there. We were brought chips, salsa and a cabbage, onion and tomato plate. The chips were too huge and needed the spoon to get anything on them. The Salsa was just OK, drowned in oregano and spicy. I like oregano and I like spicy, but there was enough oregano in one small cup to have flavored the rest of my bland and overcooked meal - and did. Combined with the cabbage dish, the chip combo was OK, but we were hungry.
We both ordered the verde chicken enchilada and chili relleno combo. They were both covered in too little of the green (Verde) sauce, which had nothing to do with ever being cooked as part of any Chile verde w/pork (con Puerco), that I have almost always experienced elsewhere. I did not have rice, as I find it is usually just a filler and of little flavor. I tried my wife's and it was cooked perfectly bland. Perfect for the elderly.
The chicken enchilada was done just right, with shredded chicken that was very tender. The problem was that it had been boiled so long, the flavor of chicken had long left the building.
As a matter of fact, my wife's first bite reminded her of fish. I have had cheap chicken before that was fed so much fish meal you could taste the fish. I wish I could have tasted something other than corn tortilla and jack cheese. I don't have any idea what happened to the broth from the chicken boil, but it must have been tasty and used for some home cooking. The most disappointing thing was what they call a Chile relleno. I generally judge a "South of the Border" place by a few things; Chile rellenos, Chile verde with pork and one of the place's signature dishes. Anyway, this omelet was disgusting. It was scrambled eggs spread out on a flat grill, a canned chili was plopped on top with some kind of cheap cheddar and then folded into a square fast food restaurant omelet. No beaten egg whites with the yolk folded in. It was overcooked, dry and the cheese inside had gotten so hot, it had separated. Yummy. Who does cheddar in a Chile relleno anyway? They must put the plates in a microwave or a salamander, as I almost burned my mouth as it was way too hot. It was then also covered in very little of the verde sauce which was almost tasteless.
The plate was covered in plenty of jack cheese. The only saving grace was the extra dish of oregano salsa that I had requested and then poured over the dish. It gave it some flavor and, more importantly, moisture. My wife, who is a Mexican food junky, left half her plate. To add insult to injury, I think the gal knew we had not enjoyed the meal and brought us out some dessert. It was a quarter of a crispy flour tortilla with whipped cream and a strawberry sauce, with a slight drizzle of either honey or sugar syrup; I'm betting on the syrup. The thought was nice, but it was as overly sweet as the meal was nasty.
There was a nice view though. While I was eating, I was able to watch some guy in the back scrubbing a large pot and other dishes. Kind of made me feel right at home. :-) Fortunately, I was at the window seat, so I could also look outside and see the stucco coming off the painted wall that was shrouding the outside seating area, admire the grout on the stone patio crumbling from the past winter freeze and, of course, all the filthy glass tables.
I might try it again, as I am an eternal optimist and this place is one of the only gigs in town. I would normally give Las Chavelas in CDA a 7 out of 10, when it comes to the best Mexican style foods that I have had, but after this place, I long for Las Chavelas.

This family run budiness has bern in operation for several generations. It is clean and tastefully decorated without dust and cobwebs. Great old fashioned homemade ice cream in several flavours. Hand crafted milkshskes and sundaes made by friendly informative staff. Super deli sandwhiches. Piping hot lattes! The store offers a number of convenience items...milk, bread, cough drops. There is even some liquor sold at the back!

It was an old style restaurant like from the 50's, but VERY clean and the food simple but VERY tasty. They did not waste food and overload with gigantic portions of French fries. Just the right amount and tasty. Beautiful view from the windows.
The only thing I did not care for was the could care less waitress. She did not fit there.

My wife and I called in here after being told it was a good place to eat in Newport. Not being particularly hungry we both opted for the chilli, topped with cheese and onions, with a side of fries. The chilli was at best, luke warm. I think most of the heat from the microwave was absorbed by the dish in which it was served. The chilli itself was the canned sort you buy from a supermarket. Absolutely no spice to it whatsoever. I had to send mine back because it was actually cold in the middle. It was then nuked for 60 seconds and brought back. Still had no flavour but at least it was now hot. The fries are those from Costco with some sort of seasoning stuck to them and then deep fried. Disappointing really as I thought this sort of mom and pop place would have home cooked meals with fresh produce, not just reheated in the microwave and frozen fries deep fried.
I did notice quite a bit of debris on the floor making the place look untidy. The decor is all local sports, some going back quite a few years. The waitress was pleasant but we won't be returning.

We love this little place, good breakfast only open til 2. Daily specials are very good and reasonable prices.... friendly waitresses. They also have a build a burger menu on the table... food does take a little longer because it is made fresh for you, it even says it on the menu, so don't be in a hurry to visit and get out. it's worth the wait.

Auggie Dogs is in a renovated school bus. It's set up in a 50's style diner motif. All food is made to order and you get your moneys worth!
