Reviews on Asian food in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Looking out over the city of St. John's, you may be reminded of a mini San Francisco (minus the cable cars). St. John's provides the ideal balance between nature and nightlife, from the East Coast Trail and its stunning scenery to the colorful entertainment district along George Street. Although it's the largest city in Newfoundland, the vibe is still very small-town. You'll feel welcome in the City of Legends!

Let me preface by saying, this is NOT a buffet-style sushi restaurant. Rather, the all-you-can-eat option is basically pay-as-you-eat, which is a nice alternative. Upon arrival, I perused the menu which offered a large variety of la carte dishes (appetizers, mains, sushi, sashimi, rolls, tempura, soups, etc.). I opted for the all-you-can-eat option for around $30CAD which allowed me to sample a wide variety of items. I ordered several sushi rolls, many containing salmon, which I found to be somewhat tough - not what I would have expected from St. John's. Also, the sushi rice was not as sticky as it should have been, therefore leading to my rolls falling apart upon being picked up with chopsticks. Service was on the slow side as there was clearly not enough staff to handle the large volume of patrons.

Decent enough food, 'everyday Chinese' so to speak, including authentic Chinese dishes as well as American-Chinese dishes. The staff's recommendations were spot-on for what we were craving for that day - we were able to have a discussion in Chinese about what we wanted to eat, which helped!

We arrived around 8:30 pm and were promptly seated. The waiter brought over menus and immediately too drink orders. While the drinks were prepared we thought about appetizers and mains. I had the dumpling soup while my dinner guest had the spring rolls and shrimp. All appetizers were excellent and tasted so good. We ordered the chicken and beef bulgogi for mains and they never disappointed either. The flavors especially the house made kimchi was to die for. I have no idea why this place is not higher on the list of restaurants in St. John's. If your in the city this is a definite stop for a meal. The food, service and atmosphere is excellent.

Sushi was acceptable, but not as spectacular as you might hope given how close St Johnâs is to the ocean. Prices were reasonable. Selection of vegetarian rolls was very nice. Service was terrible and made it hard to enjoy the food. If this aspect of the dining experience is important to you, go elsewhere.

We have lived in Vancouver for 15 years and have never encountered food so delicious and elegantly prepared as Tak's menu at Basho. The sushi is world-class, and there are also many other entrees and side-dishes that will delight any palate. Tak creates his offerings from only the highest-quality, freshest ingredients. The service is attentive but unobtrusive. The wine list is excellent, and Basho's mohitos are to die for. We visit St. John's at least once a year, and Basho is top on our list for fine dining.

I was looking forward to finally going here but, honestly, not impressed. The wait staff, while knowledgeable and attentive, forgot food at our table. The menu is very odd and difficult to know what youâre actually ordering. I ordered the pork and, while the pork back was amazing (hard to screw up pork back), the rest of the meat was bland and tasteless. Presentation was awesome; atmosphere, very nice. Food? Iâll never pay $17 plus for a bunch of salty broth garnished with seaweed and literally, Ramen.

They have a variety of items on the menu for very reasonable prices ($10-15 range). Our table had the ramen (excellent), udon noodles soup, and one of the sushi combos. Everything tasted great. Service was also excellent. Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

Donât let the shopping strip location and low profile interior turn you away. The food was succulent and perfectly spiced and the service is amazing. This was my first foray into Filipino food and the menu is a bit tricky but the servers are excellent at coaching you through the options. We sampled several dishes for a business dinner including steamed bun tacos, chicken noodle soup and the fried dumplings. All the dishes were flavorful with a mix of meats, vegetables, herbs and spices and we finished them all. Enjoy Yum

We stopped in for a quick snack and had to leave because our parking was due.We were met by the kindest man Iâve met in a long while. It was dead in there in the late afternoon. He served us some soup and tea to start. We ordered a couple orders of spring rolls, some dumplings, and two orders of peaceful rolls. These were all very high quality and very tasty. After having travelled extensively throughout Southeast Asia I can say that these spring rolls were as good or better tuna any I had there. And the peaceful rolls? Never had anything like them but they were off the charts! Their dips are incredible and homemade. We are going back for a meal in the next day or two before we leave St Johnâs.
