Discover Restaurants offering the best Cafe food in Schenectady, New York, United States. Schenectady /skəˈnɛktədi/ is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 66,135. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk word skahnéhtati meaning "beyond the pines". The city was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area. They were prohibited from the fur trade by the Albany monopoly, which kept its control after the English takeover in 1664. Residents of the new village developed farms on strip plots along the river. Connected to the west via the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, the city developed rapidly in the 19th century as part of the Mohawk Valley trade, manufacturing and transportation corridor. By 1824 more people worked in manufacturing than agriculture or trade, and the city had a cotton mill, processing cotton from the Deep South. Numerous mills in New York had such ties with the South. Through the 19th century, nationally influential companies and industries developed in Schenectady, including General Electric and American Locomotive Company (ALCO), which were powers into the mid-20th century. The city was part of emerging technologies, with GE collaborating in the production of nuclear-powered submarines and, in the 21st century, working on other forms of renewable energy.

Have been here for music over the years and always enjoyable. Funky, casual spot in the Stockade area, good to relax in their comfy chairs and hear live music. Eclectic menu. They serve a lot of vegetarian & vegan dishes in addition to meat. My friend was very impressed with the Gluten Free choices and loved what she ordered. Everything inexpensive and well priced. No alcohol but great ginger beer! Please note: cash only.

This place has great food. Soups are all home made and portions are generous. If you like corned beef hash .... This place is great! I get it all by itself with toast and make it a meal. Matt the owner is a cool guy. A great place on State St.

I pass by this establishment each day on my way to work. It has been there for many years. There are always a good amount of cars in the parking lot. My husband and I went for a late breakfast. The inside is cozy. They have made good use of the small space by really maximizing the seating. We had what seemed like a very long wait time for our food but there were not many open seats. The wait staff was hustling so I did not want to bother her too much. My omelet was excellent! It was a broccoli and cheese omelet with toast and home fries. It was the best I have ever had. Enough said!

Come taste the timeless deliciousness of hand dipped chocolates, roasted almonds and soft serve ice-cream. Located in historic downtown Schenectady across from Proctors Theater on State Street.
If you are looking for a sweet chocolate treat when in Schenectady, this is a great little place to visit. Located next to Johnny's Restaurant right on State Street, the main drag. You can watch the chocolate treats being made and there are plenty of delicious, tasty samples. When I went in I only planned to get one or two items and walked out with one of almost everything. I highly recommend the chocolate coconut, caramel macaroon. These little treats are also great as a gift or special little something to brighten someone's day! On a cold winter day be sure to get the hot chocolate. YUMMMM! The staff were super friendly. Be sure to visit this new little sweet treat!

Warm, inviting, unique dining space on upper Union Street, Schenectady. It is not as easy to find as locations with large neon signs welcoming you. It is definitely worth seeking it out. Decor is warm with around a dozen tables well spaced. Large tan ceramic tiles on the floor with "pumpkin-yellow" walls, track lighting and comforting background music encourages you to linger over your beverage. I had the omelette which was delicious. Other choices include a Spanish veggie frittata, and huevos rancheros crepe. The menu is mainly lighter fare. Loads of crepes and salads highlight the menu. Since I love sweet, two of my favorite crepes are the Dulce de Leche with Pecans, and the strawberries and cream. Service is efficient and friendly. The list of drinks options is outstanding with lattes, smoothies, and the greatest coffee. The owner is usually present and her bubbly personality gets you off to a happy beginning.

We went to Union Cafe for lunch. The service is excellent and the food is pretty fresh and well prepared. We had burgers, salad with spicy chicken and wraps. Everything was prepared perfectly, the waitress came by a few times to make sure everything was ok. We will definitely go back.
