Does it really take more than an hour to serve 7 people when there are maybe 12 in the place (I wouldn't call this a restaurant)? One person ordered a hamburger that was cold when served. After waiting another half hour to get a warm hamburger we gave up. No toilet paper in the restroom.Who is in charge of this dump?David, thank you for your review and bringing this to our attention. Heading to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, I noticed Yonder Farms Cider Mill & Bake Shoppe. Later, with my visit to the preserve cut short by a succession of T-storms with heavy downpours, I stopped in here as part of the quickly-developed Plan B. And, this turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.The sizable building actually had four attractions under one roof: a Farm Store with fresh fruits and vegetables, a huge Gift Shop, a Bake Shoppe, and a Luncheonette that served soups and the hot meal of the day â their term for it was casserole of the day.While browsing in the Farm Store section for snack-sized apples, I chatted with the gentleman who was one of the owners. I learned that the fruits and vegetables sold there were grown in several locations in the area by him and other family members. Theyâd been in business coming up on 50 years. Out of over a dozen varieties of apples, I got two. The first was a Paula Red, a variety known for its sweet-tart balance. Theyâd recently come into season. After reading the characteristics of it, my second selection was a Zestar which is another variety with a sweet-tart taste. This one was also noted for having a hint of brown sugar flavor. The large, rich-red tomatoes and grape tomatoes on display were approaching the very height of ripeness. They looked delicious. I would have purchased some; however, I wasnât going home for a few more days and was concerned that theyâd became overripe before I got the home. Section 2 was the Gift Shop. I got lost in that for about 45 minutes. It was filled with a wide variety of quality items. I saw everything from several Yankee Candle products, Woodstock wind chimes, a mailbox cover, note cards, three lines of body care items from Camille Beckman, and much more. Snow Village items were on sale at half off.Then, I came to Section 3 which was the Luncheonette which had some big and smaller tables. The dining area was roomy. The savory smell of soups and Meatloaf with Potatoes, the dayâs featured hot lunch, mixed with the aroma of freshly-baked apple pie, was very irresistible. Everything smelled wonderful. I decided to have lunch there. I went with the meatloaf dish. With meals tax, it was something like $4.89. The meatloaf had a slightly tangy red sauce like ketchup on top. It was very flavorful and had a nice, soft, easy-to-chew texture. I really liked it. It was homemade on the premises by the woman who is the co-owner. I thought that her meatloaf recipe was better than my motherâs. It was real comfort food on a cool, rainy early fall day. Section 4 was the Bake Shoppe which had three large glass cases full of all the types of sweet treats one would want, such as pies, cookies, cakes, brownies, and cider donuts. I took two of their cider donuts. Later, I shared one with the deskwoman at my hotel. She was already well acquainted with their cider donuts and loved them. And, after eating mine, I became a fan, too. The donut had a light texture and was laced with the delightful flavor of apple cider. Thereâs something about the combination of the fall season and the seasonal flavors of apples and apple cider. And, again, since I wasnât going home for a few more days, I had to resist buying any of their delicious-looking all natural fresh fruit pastries as those required prompt refrigeration because they were made without any preservatives or other additives. The owners were very personable and helpful as was their countergal Stephanie.I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Yonder Farms Cider Mill & Bake Shoppe and will make it a point to revisit the next time Iâm in the Albany-Troy area.For all it had to offer and the quality of everything, I rate Yonder Farms Cider Mill & Bake Shoppe at 5.0. This casual restaurant, located in front of Crossgates Commons, has only been open since Dec., 2018. FYI, their first location is in Latham. I like this one better though, as there are less food odors. Their menu states their food is all-natural, veggie fed, free range, & Halal. Although you order your food at a counter & pick it up when your buzzer goes off, I wouldn't call it FAST food, as it took a while for the food to be prepared. They offer rice plates (e.g., with kabobs or falafel), salads, & naan wraps. The food was tasty, although I would have preferred that my lamb had not been cooked well done. Although the sauce they served was flavorful, my companion wished that tahini was available with the falafel. Your food is served on regular plates, although you have to get your own plastic silverware. Although I was a little concerned about having to cut the meat with a plastic utensil, it wasn't a problem. The paper napkins available on the tables are really too small. Heads up that if you're a larger person, the chairs might feel a little small... Bottom line though is that I enjoyed my lunch.
